They are rich spaces of history, culture, and learning. In this project, we will explore how our school and our community connect and how they have evolved over time.

The school is a place where we learn not only math, Portuguese, and history, but also how to relate to others, how to solve problems, how to be responsible citizens. And guess what: the community is where we apply everything we learn at school. It is in the community that we live, interact with other people, help each other, and build our life in society.

Introduction

The history of the school and the community is full of interesting things. In the past, for example, schools were not like the ones we have today. Students often studied together in a single classroom, with only one teacher to teach all subjects. And the community was also different. People lived closer to each other, and life in the community was much more integrated.

But over time, things changed. Schools became larger, with more classrooms and more teachers. And the community also changed. People started to move more, to live in different places, and life in the community became more diverse. These changes in the school and the community are called 'historical processes'.

The Importance of the Project

Now, you may be wondering: why is it important to understand the history of the school and the community? Well, history helps us understand why things are the way they are today. It helps us understand why the school and the community are as they are, and how they have changed over time.

This project aims to promote the understanding of the history of the school and the community, as well as the appreciation of changes over time. Additionally, it aims to develop socio-emotional skills such as collaboration, communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking.

Detailed Project Description:

Students, divided into groups of 3 to 5 members, will conduct an investigation into the history of the school and the community where the school is located. The groups will collect and compare information about how the school and the community were in the past and how they are today. They will create a 'Time Book' and a 'Community Model' to present their findings.

Required Materials:

• Cardboard or poster board
• Bond paper
• Colored pencils, markers, crayons
• Magazines (for cutouts)
• Glue
• Blunt scissors
• Ruler
• Modeling clay (optional)
• Paints and brushes (optional)

Detailed Step-by-Step:

1. Historical Research: Firstly, the groups should conduct research on the history of the school and the community. They can interview parents, grandparents, and neighbors to gather information about how the school and the community were in the past. They should also research on the internet or at the library (with the help of the teacher) to gather more data.

2. Data Comparison: Next, the groups should compare the collected information. They should identify the similarities and differences between the school and the community in the past and today. For example, they may discover that the school used to be smaller, with fewer classrooms, and that the community used to have more small shops and fewer large buildings.

3. Creation of the 'Time Book': After comparing the data, the groups should create a 'Time Book' to record their findings. They can use cardboard or poster board to make the book cover and bond paper to write and draw inside. The book should have at least two pages: one to describe how the school was in the past and how it is today, and another to do the same with the community.

4. Creation of the 'Community Model': In addition to the 'Time Book', the groups should create a 'Community Model'. They can use modeling clay to make the buildings, streets, and public spaces of the community. They can use paint to color the model if they wish. The model should show how the community was in the past and how it is today.

5. Final Presentation: Finally, each group should present their 'Time Book' and the 'Community Model' to the class. They should explain what they learned about the history of the school and the community and how they made the comparison between the past and the present.

Delivery Format:

Each group must deliver the 'Time Book' and the 'Community Model' on the day of the presentation. These materials should be used during the presentation to assist in the explanation.
