Hey there, little scientists! Are you ready to embark on an incredible journey through our very own human bodies? Have you ever stopped to think about how magical and marvelous the functioning of our bodies is? It's a true miracle of nature! And to understand it better, we need to know its parts and understand how they work together. Our body is like a perfect machine, and each part plays an important role.
In addition, knowing our body is a fundamental step towards taking good care of it. Knowing how it works helps us understand why we need to eat well, exercise, get enough sleep, among other important things for our health.
Introduction
In our adventure, our first stop will be to study the three main parts of the human body: the head, the trunk, and the limbs. Each one of them has essential functions and deserves our special attention. To begin with, let's talk about the head. It houses our brain, which is the body's great command center. It is the brain that allows us to think, learn, memorize, and still controls all the functions of the body.
The trunk is the central part of our body, where vital organs such as the heart, lungs, and stomach are located. Did you know that the heart is a kind of pump that sends blood throughout the body? And the lungs? They allow us to breathe, absorbing the oxygen we need to live and eliminating carbon dioxide, which is a waste product of our breathing.
Last but not least, we have the limbs. The upper limbs, our arms and hands, allow us to grab objects, write, draw, among other things. And the lower limbs, legs and feet, are responsible for our movement.

Hands-on Activity: "Building the Human Body"
Project Objective
Your mission, young scientists, is to build a life-size model of the human body, using recyclable materials, paper, colored pencils, and lots of creativity to represent the three main parts: head, trunk, and limbs.
Project Description
In groups of 3 to 5 students, you will learn more about the parts of the human body while building a life-size model. This is an interdisciplinary activity, as in addition to Science, it involves Arts (in the creation of the model) and Portuguese Language (in the presentation of the work).
Each group member will be responsible for one part of the body and will need to research it, learn its functions and characteristics. At the end, the group should meet to put the parts of the model together and make a presentation to the class, explaining what they learned.
Required Materials
- Cardboard or poster board
- Colored pencils
- Blunt-tipped scissors
- Glue
- Newspapers, magazines, fabrics, caps and other recyclable materials that you want to use to decorate the model
Step by Step

Divide into groups of 3 to 5 students. Each group must choose a representative.

The group representative must draw among the members which part of the body each one will be responsible for: head, trunk, upper limbs and lower limbs.

Each student should research the part of the body they are responsible for, seeking information about its functions and characteristics.

After the research, each student should draw and cut out their part of the body on cardboard or poster board. Don't forget to make it life-size!

Now, use the recyclable materials, colored pencils, and creativity to decorate the body parts. For example, you can use caps to represent the eyes, torn newspaper to represent the hair, draw the internal organs, etc.

When all the parts are ready, join them together to form the complete human body. You can use glue or tape.

Finally, prepare a presentation for the class, where each one will talk about the part of the body they researched and what they learned.
