In the beginning, it was something very simple, but over time (no pun intended, hehe) we have developed more precise and sophisticated ways of measuring time.
Introduction
Now, let's talk about how we count time nowadays. You have seen a clock before, right? So, the clock is one of the ways we use to count time. There are many types of clocks, from sundials, which use the position of the sun in the sky, to digital ones, which use numbers to show the hours.
But it wasn't always like this. In the past, people used things like the position of the stars, the changes of the seasons, and even the moon's phases to measure time. Can you imagine how complicated that was, right? But gradually, we have learned more about time and discovered more precise ways of measuring it.
Now, you must be wondering: "Why is this important?" Well, Time Measurement is very important because it helps us organize our lives. It allows us to know when things will happen and how long they will last. Furthermore, Time Measurement is also fundamental for science, history, and many other areas of knowledge.

Practical Activity
Activity Title: "Traveling Through Time with Our Clocks"
Project Objective:
The objective of this project is for you, in groups, to create a sundial and a water clock. This way, you will better understand how our ancestors measured time and how our modern clocks work.
Detailed Project Description:
You will build a sundial and a water clock. The sundial uses the sun's position to mark the hours. The water clock, on the other hand, uses the passage of water from one container to another.
With this project, you will learn about the history of Time Measurement and how our ancestors told time. Additionally, you will better understand how our modern clocks work.
Required Materials:

For the sundial:
- A large piece of cardboard or paper
- A barbecue stick
- A marker
- A stopwatch (can be from a cellphone)

For the water clock:
- Two identical plastic cups
- Water
- A permanent marker
- A stopwatch (can be from a cellphone)
Step by Step:
- Sundial:
- Using the marker, draw a circle on the cardboard or paper. This will be the clock face.
- Attach the barbecue stick to the center of the circle, perpendicular to the surface.
- Now, it's time to observe the sun! Every hour, mark on the circle the shadow of the barbecue stick. Do this throughout the day.
- Using the stopwatch, record how much time passes between each shadow.
- Water Clock:
- With the permanent marker, mark the same level on both plastic cups.
- Fill one of the cups with water up to the marked level.
- Now, just wait. The water will pass from one cup to the other. Use the stopwatch to record how long it takes for the water to pass from one cup to the other.
Remember, kids, write down all the results and observations you make. In the end, we will discuss what we learned from this experience!
