Activity Title: Life Factors - How Light & Water Affect Plants

Project Goal:

The goal of this project is to observe and understand the importance of light and water in the life of plants, while also developing skills such as teamwork, time management, communication, and creative thinking.

Detailed Project Description:

In this activity, teams will be responsible for creating two small gardens, one with plenty of sunlight and another with little light. They will also control the amount of water each plant receives. Over the course of a week, students should observe and record the differences in plant growth in each garden.

Materials Needed:

• 6 plant pots
• Potting soil
• Arugula seeds (or another fast-growing plant)
• 2 containers for measuring water
• Space with plenty of sunlight
• Space with little light (can be indoors or in the shade)
• Notebook or sheets of paper to record observations
• Pencils or pens

Activity Step-by-Step:

1. Prepare the Pots: Fill the pots with soil. In each pot, plant the arugula seeds following the instructions on the package.

2. Divide the Pots: Divide the pots into two groups of 3. One group will be placed in the area with plenty of sunlight and the other group in the area with little light.

3. Water the Plants: Decide as a group how much water each plant will receive and when. It should be the same amount for all plants, but the amount can be different for the two groups.
