Hello, little geographers! Have you ever stopped to notice how the landscape around us is always changing? It's fascinating, isn't it? But did you know that these changes don't happen overnight? They are the result of various actions and processes that occur over time. These changes in the landscape are called Transformations in the Landscape and it is about them that we will learn and explore in this project!
And why is it important to learn about the transformations in the landscape? Because they are the way nature and humans interact and modify themselves. When we understand these transformations, we are able to better comprehend our environment and our relationship with it.
In our beautiful city, for example, we can notice several transformations in the landscape. The green areas that are disappearing to make way for buildings and houses, the roads that cut through the mountains, the rivers that are diverted for dam construction... All of these are transformations in the landscape and have a great impact on our daily lives.
In this project, we will explore a little more about the transformations in the landscape, we will understand how they happen and what their consequences are. Furthermore, we will discover how we can act so that these transformations are positive for the environment and for the communities. So, are you ready to embark on this geographical adventure?

Transformations in the landscape can occur slowly, over many years, or they can happen quickly, in just a few days. For example, the formation of a mountain or the erosion of a river are processes that take thousands of years to happen, while the construction of a building or the opening of a road are transformations that can occur in a few months or weeks.

Studying the transformations in the landscape is important because it helps us understand how nature and humans interact and modify themselves. Furthermore, it allows us to better comprehend our environment and our relationship with it. When we understand these transformations, we can think of ways to act more consciously and sustainably, so that the transformations in the landscape are positive for the environment and for the communities.

Activity Title: "Transforming the Landscape: Observing and Acting"
Project Objective:
This project aims to develop in students the ability to observe and analyze the transformations in the landscape around them, understand their causes and consequences, and think of actions that can contribute to positive transformations.
Detailed Project Description:
Students, in groups of 3 to 5, will be responsible for choosing an area in their community to observe and record the transformations in the landscape. They should conduct research, field observations, and interviews with residents to understand the causes and consequences of these transformations. Based on this information, the groups should propose actions that can contribute to positive transformations in the observed landscape.
Necessary Materials:
- Notebook and pen for notes
- Camera or cell phone for photographic records (with permission from parents or guardians)
- Internet access for research (with supervision from parents or guardians)
- Materials for the final report: cardboard, colored pencils, magazine cutouts, glue, etc.
Step-by-Step for Activity Execution:

Area Selection: In a group, choose an area in your community to observe and record the transformations in the landscape. It can be a square, a river, a busy street, an empty lot, etc.

Observation and Recording: Visit the chosen area several times over a week. During the visits, observe the transformations in the landscape and record your observations. You can make drawings, take photos, note the changes you noticed, etc.

Research: Using the internet (with supervision from parents or guardians) and books, research the possible causes of the transformations you observed. For example, if the chosen area was a square, you can research about urbanization, urban growth, among other related topics.

Interviews: Talk to community residents, if possible, to understand the consequences of the transformations in the landscape. Ask them what they think about these transformations and if there is any action they would like to see to positively transform the landscape.
