Project Objective

The objective of this project is to identify vowels in syllables and, with that, build words in a fun and interactive way.

Detailed Project Description

In this activity, students, in groups of 3 to 5, will be challenged to create a card game with words they will build themselves. Each card will have a syllable of a word, and by putting the cards together, they should form words. The unique aspect is that they must identify the vowels in each syllable.

Required Materials

1. Colored cardboards or cardstock
2. Colored pens
3. Scissors
4. Glue
5. Dictionary (optional, to assist in searching for words)

Step-by-Step Guide for the Activity

1. Group Division: Form groups of 3 to 5 students.

2. Word Selection: Each group should choose 5 words. It can be any word, it is only important that they identify the syllables and vowels.

3. Building the Cards: On each cardboard or cardstock, students should write a syllable of a word. For example, if the chosen word is casa, one card can have ca written on it and another sa.

4. Identifying Vowels: After writing the syllables on the cards, students should identify which vowel is in each syllable and mark it with a colored pen. For example, the vowel of the first syllable of the word casa is a.

5. Building the Card Game: With all the cards ready, students should shuffle them and form a pile in the center of the table.

6. Game: The game proceeds similarly to the memory game. Students, in turns, flip two cards. If the two syllables together form a word, they earn a point. If they do not form a word, the cards are flipped back. The group that scores the most points wins the game.

7. Final Reflection: At the end of the game, students should reflect on the words formed and how they identified the vowels in the syllables.
