Information Search

Contextualization

Information research is a very important skill in the world we live in. In our daily lives, we often need to search for information to solve problems, understand the world around us, and learn new things. But what is information research?

Research means seeking information on a specific subject, whether on the internet, in books, in videos, or even by talking to people. And when we conduct research, we need to know how to filter the information we find, to determine if it is true, reliable, and relevant to our purpose.

Introduction

In our increasingly connected world, the ability to research and evaluate information has become essential. After all, the internet offers us a vast amount of information, but not all of it is accurate and reliable. Therefore, it is important to know how to find the correct and relevant information for our needs.

Information research involves several stages, from defining the topic we want to research, to analyzing and selecting the information we find. And to conduct good research, we need to use various skills, such as the ability to formulate good questions, to use keywords to search the internet, to select the most reliable sources, to evaluate the quality of the information we find, and to synthesize what we have learned.

The Importance of Information Research

Information research is a valuable skill that allows us to learn independently, solve problems, make informed decisions, and stay updated. Furthermore, information research is an essential part of academic work, helping us write quality papers, create interesting presentations, and participate in discussions in an informed and constructive manner.

However, information research also has its challenges. With so much information available, it can be difficult to filter what is relevant and reliable. Additionally, information research requires time, patience, and time management skills.

In this project, we will explore the importance of information research, as well as learn and practice the necessary skills to conduct effective research. Let's embark on this journey together!

Practical Activity

Activity Title: "Information Explorers"

Project Objective

The objective of this project is for students to practice information research, reading, writing, critical thinking, communication, and time management skills. Additionally, we aim to foster teamwork, creativity, and proactivity.

Project Description

Students, divided into groups of 3 to 5, will conduct research on an animal. They will have to collect various information about the chosen animal, such as habitat, diet, physical characteristics, etc. The research will be done using different sources, such as books, websites, encyclopedias, etc.

Subsequently, the groups will synthesize the collected information and create a "digital book" about the animal, using digital tools (PowerPoint, Google Slides, Canva, etc.). Each group member will be responsible for a part of the book.

Finally, the groups will present the digital book to the class, sharing what they have learned during the research.

Required Materials

  • Internet access (computer or tablet)
  • Books and encyclopedias about animals (can be in the school library)
  • Digital tools for creating the "book" (PowerPoint, Google Slides, Canva, etc.)
  • Paper, pencils, and pens for notes

Step by Step

  1. Group Formation: Divide the class into groups of 3 to 5 students.

  2. Animal Selection: Each group must choose an animal they would like to research. The teacher can provide a list of animals to facilitate the selection.

  3. Information Collection: The groups should research the chosen animal, using different sources of information. They should take note of the most important information.

  4. Creation of the "Book": Using the chosen digital tools, the groups will create the "digital book" about the animal. Each group member will be responsible for a part of the book, for example: one can create the cover, another the introduction, another the section on diet, etc.

  5. Review and Editing: After the first version of the "book" is ready, the groups should review and edit the work. They should check if the information is correct and if the "book" is organized logically and attractively.

  6. Presentation: Each group will present their "digital book" to the class. During the presentation, they should share what they have learned during the research.

  7. Evaluation: The teacher will assess the students' performance throughout the process, taking into account the quality of the research and the "digital book", participation, and teamwork.

With this project, students will develop various important skills, such as information research, reading, writing, critical thinking, communication, and time management. Additionally, they will have fun learning about different animals and sharing what they have learned with their peers. Bon voyage, information explorers!
