Introduction

In this journey, we will learn about the idea of ethnic-cultural territory. But what does that mean? Well, when we talk about territory, we are referring to a delimited geographical area. And when we add the term ethnic-cultural, we are talking about a territory that has specific characteristics related to the ethnicity and culture of the people who inhabit it.

For example, Brazil is a country with a very diverse ethnic-cultural territory. Here, we can find territories of indigenous peoples, descendants of Africans, European immigrants, Arabs, and so on. Each of these groups has its own traditions, languages, and ways of seeing the world, and that is what makes our country so rich and interesting.

Practical Activity

Activity Title: "Touring through Ethnic-Cultural Territories"

Project Objective

This project aims to allow students to know and understand the ethnic-cultural diversity of Brazil and other countries, through research, presentations, and practical activities. Additionally, the project seeks to promote teamwork, communication, creativity, and time management.

Detailed Project Description

The students, divided into groups of 3 to 5 members, will be "tourists" who will have the task of researching and presenting about a specific ethnic-cultural territory. Each group will choose an ethnic-cultural territory (which can be a country, a state, a city, a community, etc.) and, through their research, will discover and share about the ethnicity and culture that make up that territory.

The students will prepare a visual and oral presentation about the chosen ethnic-cultural territory, which will include information about the geographical location, population, language, religion, cuisine, festivals and traditions, history, economy, among other relevant aspects. Additionally, each group will develop a practical activity that represents some element of the culture of the researched territory.

• Textbooks, encyclopedias, internet, and other research sources
• Paper, pencils, colored pens, scissors, glue
• Cardboard, paint, brushes (for the practical activity)
• Clothes, objects, or photos that represent the culture of the researched territory (optional)

Step by Step

1. Group Formation: Students will be divided into groups of 3 to 5 members. Each group must choose a name for their team.

2. Choice of Ethnic-Cultural Territory: Each group will choose an ethnic-cultural territory to research and present. It can be any territory they find interesting, such as a country, a state, a city, a community, etc.

3. Research: Students will research the chosen ethnic-cultural territory, using textbooks, encyclopedias, internet, and other research sources. They should focus on understanding the ethnicity and culture that make up that territory, and on discovering information about the geographical location, population, language, religion, cuisine, festivals and traditions, history, economy, among other relevant aspects.

4. Preparation of the Presentation: With the collected information, students will prepare a visual and oral presentation about the chosen ethnic-cultural territory. The presentation should include images, maps, graphs, or other visual resources, and should be organized clearly and sequentially.

5. Development of the Practical Activity: Each group will develop a practical activity related to the researched ethnic-cultural territory. The activity can be a game, a dance, a song, a culinary recipe, an art, or anything else that represents some element of the culture of the territory.

6. Final Presentation: At the end of the project, each group will present to the class what they learned about the chosen ethnic-cultural territory. The presentation should include the exhibition of the prepared visual materials and the performance of the practical activity.

7. Evaluation: Students will be evaluated both on the content of their presentation and practical activity, and on teamwork, creativity, communication, and time management.

Delivery Format

The delivery format will be the final presentation to the class, which will take place at the end of the project. Each group will have about 20 to 30 minutes to present their research, visual materials, and the practical activity. Additionally, each student must individually submit a short report (1 to 2 pages) about the experience of participating in the project. In the report, the student should write about what they learned, the skills they developed, the difficulties they faced and how they overcame them, and what they thought of the activity. The report can be handwritten or typed, and must be submitted by the day of the final presentation.
