Hello, class! Have you ever stopped to think where the energy we use every day in our homes and schools comes from? In this project, we will explore the fascinating world of 'Energy Matrices'.

All around the world, energy is essential to our lives. It allows us to light up our homes, cook our food, move our vehicles, and even access the internet. However, we need to understand that there are different sources of energy and that each of them has different impacts on the environment.

Introduction

An energy matrix is the representation of the energy sources that a country uses. In other words, it is the 'mix' of different types of energy that a nation uses to meet its needs. These sources can be divided into two main groups: renewable energies and non-renewable energies.

Renewable energies are those that can be naturally replenished, such as solar, wind, hydroelectric, and biomass energy. They are considered more sustainable because they have a lower impact on the environment and do not deplete. On the other hand, non-renewable energies are those that, once used, cannot be replenished, such as oil, coal, and natural gas. They cause significant environmental impacts and may run out one day.

For example, in Brazil, the energy matrix is mainly composed of renewable sources, such as hydroelectric energy from hydroelectric plants, and biomass energy from organic waste. However, the country also depends on non-renewable sources, such as oil and natural gas.

Practical Activity: 'Exploring Energy Matrices Around the World'

Project Objective

The objective of this project is for student groups to research and understand the different energy matrices of countries around the world and create a presentation to share their findings with the class.

Project Description

Each group will be responsible for researching the energy matrix of a specific country and producing a slideshow presentation to share the information found. The countries to be researched are: Brazil, United States, China, Germany, and India.

Required Materials

  • Internet access for research
  • Textbooks or other reference materials on energy and energy matrices
  • Computer or tablet with slideshow presentation software (such as PowerPoint, Google Slides, etc.)
  • Art materials to illustrate the presentation (optional)

Step by Step

  1. Group Formation: Divide the class into five groups, each representing a country for research.

  2. Research: Each group should research the energy matrix of the assigned country. In addition to identifying the main sources of energy used in the country, it is important to find out if the matrix is more based on renewable or non-renewable energies. Students can search for information in books, reliable websites, and even educational videos.

  3. Information Organization: After collecting the information, each group should organize their findings in a logical sequence that will be part of the presentation. This sequence should include an introduction to the country, an explanation of its energy matrix, and, if possible, an example of how this matrix affects the daily life of the population.

  4. Presentation Creation: Using the computer or tablet, each group should create a slideshow presentation to share their findings. It is important for them to use their own words to explain what they have learned and to include images and graphics to make the presentation more engaging and easy to understand.

  5. Presentation Practice: Before presenting to the class, each group should practice the presentation, ensuring that all group members participate and know what to say. They should also make sure that the presentation is not too long (about 5 to 7 minutes) and that all important information is included.

  6. Presentation to the Class: Finally, each group will present their research to the class. Encourage students to ask questions and share their own ideas about the energy matrices of the researched countries.
