Activity Title: Creating Our Own City-State
Project Objective
This project aims to allow students to understand the basic concepts of the State, citizenship, and government, as well as to exercise social, problem-solving, and time management skills.
Detailed Project Description
Students, divided into groups of 3 to 5, will be challenged to create a fictional city-state. They will use creativity to define the city's name, location, territory, population, government, laws, and even its own culture. Each group will present their city-state to the class, explaining their choices and how they reflect the concepts of the State, government, and citizenship.
Required Materials
- Drawing paper
- Colored pencils
- Colorful pens
- Blunt scissors
- Glue
- Magazines (for cutting and pasting, if available)
- Dictionary (for word reference)
Project Step by Step

Group Formation: Students will be divided into groups of 3 to 5 people.

Research and Discussion: Each group should research the concept of the State, citizenship, and government. They should also discuss how these concepts apply to their daily lives.

Creation of the city-state: Each group will draw and create their own city-state. They should think of a name for the city, its location (it can be anywhere in the world, even at the bottom of the sea or in space!), its territory, and its population.

Definition of government and laws: Students must define the type of government their city-state will have (it can be a monarchy, a democracy, a dictatorship, etc.) and create some laws that will be applied in the city-state.

Development of culture: Each group should think about the culture of their city-state. They can create a language, a anthem, a flag, and even a typical cuisine!

Final Presentation: After completing the work, each group will present the city-state they created to the class. They should explain their choices and how they reflect the concepts of the State, government, and citizenship.
Delivery Format
Each group must submit, at the end of the activity, the drawing of the city-state, along with a brief written description explaining the choices made and how they reflect the concepts of the State, citizenship, and government. In addition, each group will make an oral presentation to the class, explaining their work and answering questions, if any.
