Mathematics is a fascinating and fundamental discipline for our daily lives. One of the key concepts in mathematics that we will learn is that of 'Common Denominators'.
Common denominators are an essential concept that you need to understand to work effectively with fractions. A common denominator is when the denominator, the bottom part of a fraction, is the same for two or more fractions. This is very useful when we are doing calculations involving fractions, as we can only add or subtract fractions directly if they have the same denominator.
Introduction to the Project
In this project, we will explore the concept of common denominators in a playful and interactive way. We will learn to identify when two fractions have different denominators and how to make them equal. Project Objective
The objective of this project is to understand and practice the concept of common denominators while developing teamwork, problem-solving, and effective communication skills.
Detailed Project Description
This project will be carried out by groups of 3 to 5 students and has as its final product the creation and solving of a fraction puzzle. Each group must create a puzzle based on common denominators and then exchange it with another group to solve.

Step-by-Step Guide for the Activity

Creating the Puzzle: In this stage, the group must create a fraction puzzle on cardboard. This can be done by drawing and coloring geometric shapes. Each shape will represent a fraction with a denominator between 2 and 10.

Division and Marking: Next, cut each geometric shape into pieces that represent parts of each fraction. For example, if the shape represents 5/8, cut it into 8 pieces and color 5 of them.

Including Challenges: To make the activity more challenging, you can include pairs of fractions that need to be transformed into common denominators before being compared.

Exchanging Puzzles: After creating and having your puzzle correctness checked by the teacher, groups should exchange their puzzles with each other to solve them.
