Project Objective
Applying the knowledge of decimal addition and subtraction to a real, practical context. Strengthening teamwork, encouraging organization and task planning, and developing critical and analytical thinking.
Detailed Project Description
In this project, students will create a store that sells fictional products. Each group will define the products that will be sold, their prices (using decimal numbers), create a menu with the products and prices, and simulate sales and change transactions.
Required Materials
- Paper and pens to create the product menu.
- Calculator (optional, to check the calculations).
- Various objects to represent the store’s fictional products.
Step by Step
1. Group Formation: Students should organize themselves into groups of 3 to 5 members.
2. Creating the Store: Each group should define what the fictional products sold at their store will be. They can be objects available in the classroom, like books, pencils, erasers, etc. The products do not need to have a real value, since the objective is to simulate sales and change transactions.
3. Setting the Prices: Groups should define the prices of each product, which should be decimal numbers. It is also interesting to create combos or promotions that involve the addition of different products.
4. Creating the Menu: Each group should create a menu that lists the products and their respective prices.
5. Simulating Sales and Change: Alternately, one group should visit another group’s store to buy products.
