But have you ever stopped to think if everything we buy is really necessary? Or if what we are consuming is causing harm to the environment and society?

Introduction

Conscious consumption is not just an individual attitude, but rather a way of thinking and acting that involves the whole society. When we consume consciously, we are contributing to the preservation of the environment, the improvement of working conditions, and the reduction of inequalities.

In this project, we will explore the topic of conscious consumption in a fun and practical way. We will learn more about what conscious consumption is, why it is important, and how we can make more conscious choices in our daily lives.

Why is conscious consumption important?

Conscious consumption is important because our consumer choices have a direct impact on the environment, the economy, and society. When we buy a product, we are supporting the entire production process, from the extraction of raw materials to the sale and disposal. And this can have positive or negative consequences, depending on our choices.

For example, if we buy products that pollute less, that are made with sustainable materials, and that are produced in fair working conditions, we will be contributing to the preservation of the environment and the improvement of the living conditions of many people. On the other hand, if we buy products that are made in an irresponsible way, we are supporting practices that can be harmful to the environment and society.

So, conscious consumption is a way of expressing our values and doing our part to build a better world. And the best thing is that we can all do it, starting with our daily consumer choices.

Practical Activity: "Conscious Consumption Agent"

Project Goal

The goal of this activity is to make students understand the importance of conscious consumption, apply the concepts learned in real-life consumption situations, and develop socio-emotional skills such as teamwork, communication, decision-making, and time management.

Project Description

In this project, students will become "Conscious Consumption Agents". They will choose a product from their daily lives (e.g. a snack, a toy, a book) and investigate its origin, environmental, social, and economic impact. Then, they will present what they have discovered to the class and suggest more conscious consumption alternatives.

Required Materials

• Access to the internet or books for research
• Paper, pens, colored pencils, scissors, glue
• Cardboard or poster board to make a poster
• Materials to create a model (optional, to enhance the activity)

Step by Step

1. Group Formation: Students will be divided into groups of 3 to 5 people.

2. Product Selection: Each group will choose a product that is part of their daily lives. It can be a snack, a toy, a book, a piece of clothing, etc.

3. Research: The groups will research the chosen product. They should find out where the product comes from, how it is made, and the impacts of its production, use, and disposal process on the environment, the economy, and society.

4. Poster Creation: With the information gathered, the groups will create an informative poster about the product. In the poster, they should include the name of the product, its origin, the environmental, social, and economic impacts, and some pictures or drawings that illustrate this information.

5. Presentation Preparation: In addition to the poster, the groups must also prepare an oral presentation for the class. They should explain what they learned about the product, why it is important in the context of conscious consumption, and suggest more conscious consumption alternatives.

6. Presentation: Each group will have some time to present their poster and talk about the product to the class.

7. Discussion: After all the presentations, the class will discuss what they have learned from the project. What did they discover about conscious consumption? What more conscious consumption alternatives were presented? How can they apply these concepts to their daily lives?

Remember, this is a fun and practical project! Encourage students' creativity in the elaboration of the poster and the presentation, and stimulate collaboration among the group members. And do not forget to closely monitor the students' progress, providing guidance and answering questions along the way.
