Drawing is an integral part of Visual Arts, which encompass various forms of artistic expression such as painting, sculpture, photography, among others. Drawing itself is a vast and diverse discipline, with many subcategories, styles, and techniques, such as pencil drawing, crayon, charcoal, ink, etc.

In this project, we will explore artistic expression through drawing, studying different styles and approaches, and then applying what we have learned to create our own works of art.

In the real world, drawing skills are applied in various fields and professions. Artists use this skill to express their worldview and feelings. Graphic designers, architects, and engineers use drawing as a tool to plan and visualize their projects. In the fields of animation and digital games, drawing is an indispensable skill to create characters and worlds.

The art of drawing also plays an important role in mental health and well-being, being an excellent way to express emotions, reduce stress, and increase self-esteem. Drawing can be therapeutic and a form of meditation, helping to focus on the present moment.

Practical Activity: "Expressing Ourselves Through Drawing"

Project Objective

The objective of the project is to explore artistic expression through drawing, studying different artistic styles and applying this knowledge in the creation of a collective work. In addition, students should learn to work in groups, divide tasks, and manage their time efficiently.

Detailed Project Description

Groups of 3 to 5 students will research different drawing styles and choose one that is of collective interest. Each group should create a medium-sized artwork representing a scene or theme collectively agreed upon, using the chosen drawing style.

The artwork should be conceived and executed collectively, where each group member must contribute to the creation of the artwork, whether in its conception, elaboration, or even in its execution.

The project is estimated to take between 5 to 10 hours for each participant and will have a one-month deadline.

Required Materials

• A2 or A1 size drawing paper
• Drawing pencils (various grades)
• Eraser
• Sharpener
• Coloring materials according to the chosen style (colored pencils, crayons, markers, watercolor, etc.)

Step by Step

1. Form the work groups.
2. Research different drawing styles and choose one for the project.
3. Decide together on a scene or theme for the drawing.
4. Plan the drawing, deciding on the composition, colors to use, among others.
5. Divide tasks among group members, remembering that everyone should actively participate in the creation of the drawing.
6. Execute the drawing, monitoring progress and making adjustments as necessary.
7. Finalize the drawing, taking care of details and making final touches.
8. Write the report, where each group member will contribute a section.

Project Deliverables

Groups must deliver the completed drawing and a written report. The drawing will be used to assess the application of acquired knowledge and the development of technical skills.

The written report should contain the following topics:

• Introduction: Present the theme "Artistic expression through drawing," explaining its relevance and application in the real world. Describe the choice of drawing style and the reason for the choice.
• Development: Detail the process of creating the artwork, explaining how the studied theory was applied in practice. How the group planned and executed the artwork, what challenges they encountered, and how these challenges were overcome.
• Conclusions: Summarize the main points of the project and the learnings acquired by the group. Discuss the experience of working in a group and how it helped to complete the project.
• Bibliography: List the sources of information used.

This project encourages research, analysis, creativity, collaboration, and communication. By the end of the project, students will have expanded their knowledge of different drawing styles and artistic expression, applied this knowledge in a practical way, and developed research, teamwork, problem-solving, and creative thinking skills.
