Context
Number sets are fundamental mathematical structures that we encounter immediately in arithmetic and later branch out into various areas of knowledge. They are present from the simplest calculations to the most complex, such as differential equations, linear algebra, quantum mechanics, among others.
Number sets are basically the different categories in which numbers can be classified. We have the set of natural numbers, integers, rationals, irrationals, and real numbers. In addition to them, there are also complex numbers, which are an extension of the set of real numbers.
Introduction
For our project, we will start with the first sets that arise, the natural numbers. These are the numbers we use for counting, like 1, 2, 3, etc. It includes zero and all positive numbers. The set of integers, on the other hand, includes all natural numbers including their negative opposites, like -1, -2, -3, etc.
Moving on, we have the set of rational numbers. These are numbers that can be expressed as a fraction, in other words, a division between two integers. Irrational numbers, on the other hand, are those that cannot be expressed as a fraction, like the famous number π (pi).
Finally, we have the set of real numbers, which is the union of all these previous sets. And besides that, we have the set of complex numbers, which includes numbers that are not real.
But why study this? Well, number sets are the basis of the mathematical operations we use in our daily lives. Whether it's to add two numbers, calculate a percentage, solve an equation, or even understand phenomena in physics, economics, engineering, among others.
Practical Activity: Exploring Number Sets
Objective
The proposed activity will seek to explore the understanding of the respective number sets (natural, integers, rationals, irrationals, and reals) and their interrelations through a playful and interactive project.
Detailed Project Description
Students will be divided into groups of 3 to 5 members, and each group will be assigned a specific number set to explore. Each group will be responsible for creating a presentation that explains the definition of their number set, presents examples, subsets, and the relationship of their set with the other sets.
In addition, the groups will create a 'map of number sets', which will consist of a graphical display of the number sets, their relationships, examples of numbers from each set, and their respective properties.

Step by Step

Students will be divided into groups of 3 to 5 people.

Each group will be assigned a specific number set to research and explore (natural, integers, rationals, irrationals, and reals).

The groups will research and understand the definition of their number set, identify examples, subsets, and the relationship of their set with the other number sets.

After the research, the groups will prepare a presentation that explains the points raised in the previous step. This presentation should be clear and dynamic, aiming at the understanding of all students in the class.

In addition to the presentation, the groups will create a 'map of number sets' which will consist of a graphical diagram with the representation of the number sets, their relationships, examples of numbers from each set, and their respective properties.

In the end, the groups will present their work to the class, where they will also be available to answer questions and discuss their set.

Finally, students will write a report on the activity, describing the entire learning process, the difficulties encountered, the results obtained, and the conclusions drawn from the project.
Project Delivery
The final delivery of the project will be the presentation made by the groups to the entire class and the 'map of number sets' handed over to the teacher. In addition, the groups will write a document in the form of a report explaining the entire process of carrying out the project, from the initial research to the presentation and creation of the map, through the difficulties encountered, the results obtained, and the conclusions drawn about the project. This report must be submitted within a week after the final presentation.
The purpose of the report is to complement the practical work, offering a reflection on what was learned during the project and how this knowledge was built. In addition, it allows evaluating the student's ability to express themselves in writing, concisely and structured.
