When we read a text, we make a continuous effort to associate words with objects and situations that are not physically present but that are part of our knowledge about the situation in which the text was produced.
Importance of situational reference
Understanding situational reference is a fundamental step for our reading comprehension. It is what allows us to connect the ideas presented in the text with our own experiences. In addition, the ability to identify and interpret situational references in a text is an extremely important skill for those who want to master textual production techniques.
