Textual sequences or types of texts are integral parts of our daily lives. Whether in a simple informal conversation, an academic lecture, a literary novel, or a technical report, each situation demands a distinct way of conveying the message, as each has its own linguistic and structural characteristics. Therefore, understanding these sequences is essential to communicate effectively and comprehend the messages we receive.

In general terms, texts can be classified into five major types: narrative, descriptive, argumentative, expository, and injunctive. Each of these types has its own structure and functionality, being used in different circumstances and for different purposes. Their correct identification and use are essential skills for effective communication and for carrying out study, work, citizenship activities, among others.

Introduction

This project consists of an in-depth study of textual sequences in the Portuguese language. Students will work in groups to identify, study, discuss, and apply the concepts related to these types of texts. Additionally, they will be encouraged to explore how these sequences are used in different contexts and disciplines in order to understand the interdisciplinarity of texts.

Mastering textual types allows for greater communicative competence, as identifying the structure and characteristics of texts assists both in the correct interpretation of messages and in the production of coherent texts suitable for each situation. Furthermore, the proper use of textual sequences contributes to the formation of critical citizens who are capable of understanding and actively participating in society.

Practical Activity

Activity Title: "Exploring Textual Sequences: An Interdisciplinary Journey"

Project Objective

The objective of the activity is for students, working in groups of 3 to 5 members, to investigate, understand, and apply the concepts of textual sequences, elucidating their characteristics, functionalities, and uses in different contexts and disciplines.

Project Description

Each group must choose five different disciplines (including Portuguese Language) and identify a representative text of each of the five textual sequences (narration, description, argumentation, exposition, and injunction) in each of these disciplines.

Additionally, each group must produce a "Guide to Textual Sequences," presenting the particularities of each textual sequence, its application in each discipline, and a detailed analysis of the selected texts.

The Guide should also include a chapter on the interdisciplinarity of textual sequences, exploring how they allow for effective communication in different fields of study and human activities.

Required Materials

• Internet access for research;
• Writing material (computer or paper and pen);
• Notebook or note-taking software to organize ideas and find patterns;
• Camera or cell phone for audiovisual recordings (optional).

Activity Steps

1. Research and Organization (4 hours): Each group must define the five disciplines to be worked on and search for representative texts of each textual sequence in these disciplines. The texts found can be in any format (articles, blogs, videos, podcasts, etc.) as long as they adequately represent the textual sequence.

2. Text Analysis (4 hours): After collecting the texts, the groups must carefully analyze each one, identifying and highlighting the characteristics that represent the respective textual sequence.

3. Guide Creation (3 hours): Based on the analyses conducted, each group must create a Guide to Textual Sequences. The Guide should contain the definition, characteristics, and examples of each textual sequence.

4. Interdisciplinarity (2 hours): Finally, students must write a chapter in their Guide about the interdisciplinarity of textual sequences. They should discuss how these sequences appear in different disciplines and why they are important for effective communication.

5. Report Writing (2 hours): After completing the project, each group must write a detailed report following the format of introduction, development, conclusion, and bibliography.

Project Deliverables

Students must submit the Guide to Textual Sequences and the written report. The Guide should demonstrate the students' understanding of each textual sequence and how these sequences are applied in different disciplines.

The report should provide an overview of the project, including the importance of textual sequences, the methodology used to carry out the activity, a discussion of the results, and a conclusion on what was learned. The report should also include a bibliography of the resources used to complete the project.
