Our Portuguese language is formed by a complex linguistic structure that is composed of diverse classifications and categories. Among the most fundamental are vowels, semi-vowels and consonants. Learning about them is fundamental for the correct structuring and understanding of words, both written and spoken.

Vowels are the most open and free sounds of the Portuguese language, they are the basis of all syllables and words. Consonants, on the other hand, are more closed and require the company of a vowel to be pronounced correctly. Finally, semi-vowels are the intermediary sounds between vowels and consonants, they contribute to the creation of complex and diversified syllables.

Introduction

The classification of vowels, semi-vowels and consonants is deeply rooted in our language and has direct applications in diverse areas of knowledge, going beyond the field of Portuguese. It has direct applications in music, poetry, computational linguistics and even in speech science, where it helps to understand how we produce and perceive the different sounds that constitute our speech.

Practical Activity

Activity Title: Exploring Vowels, Semi-Vowels and Consonants

Project Objective

The main objective of this project is to familiarize students with the vowels, semi-vowels and consonants of the Portuguese language through a fun and collaborative approach, integrating the disciplines of Portuguese and Music. In addition, students should learn to elaborate a scientific report, developing their research, writing, organization and teamwork skills.

Detailed Project Description

In this activity, students will have to form groups of 3 to 5 people and together, they will explore the sounds of vowels, semi-vowels and consonants in a practical way. First, they will research the theoretical concepts related to these linguistic classifications. Then, they will use these concepts to analyze the composition of different words and popular songs. Finally, the group will create a musical presentation that represents the knowledge acquired, using an instrument of their choice.

The groups will have a limited time of two weeks to complete the activity, which totals more than 12 hours per student.

Necessary Materials

• Reference books on Portuguese and Music
• Internet access for complementary research
• Musical instruments (it can even be homemade objects that produce sound)
• Material for creating explanatory posters (paper, colored pens, etc.)
• Video editing software (optional, for the final presentation)

Step by Step

1. Research: Based on the suggested materials, students will have to research on vowels, semi-vowels and consonants, in addition to understanding the relationship between these elements and the construction of words and melodies.
2. Analysis: Students should analyze the lyrics of three popular Portuguese songs, identifying the vowels, semi-vowels and consonants in each of them.
3. Musical Creation: Each group should create a musical presentation using the words analyzed. The objective is to make a composition that shows the relationship between vowels, semi-vowels and consonants and the melody.
4. Presentation: The groups should make a presentation for the class, playing the created music and explaining the work done. They should also prepare an explanatory poster, summarizing the concepts learned and showing the analysis of the words used.

Project Deliverables

In addition to the musical presentation and the poster, each group should produce a written report, of at least 10 pages, detailing the entire process carried out in the activity. The report should be structured according to the following topics:

1. Introduction: Presents the theme, its relevance and real-world application, as well as the objective of the project. It should contain a contextualization text on vowels, semi-vowels and consonants.
2. Development: Describes the theory behind the themes worked on, explains the activity in detail (including the choice of songs, the linguistic analysis processes and the musical creation), indicates the methodology used and presents the results obtained, through the discussion of the musical presentation.
3. Conclusion: Resumes the main points of the activity, explains the learning acquired and the conclusions drawn about the project.
4. Bibliography: Lists the sources used during the project, including books, websites, videos, etc.

The report should be delivered in the week following the presentation, allowing students time to reflect on the project and consolidate their learning.
