Thus, interpreting Spanish texts is a fundamental skill for those who are learning the language. It allows not only the comprehension of texts written in Spanish, but also access to a rich culture and history contained in these texts.

Text interpretation is a skill necessary for almost all areas of life. It is present from academic areas to everyday practices, such as reading news, magazines, books, contracts, manuals, among others. In the globalized world we live in, knowing how to interpret a text in another language becomes an increasingly valued ability, opening doors to new opportunities and experiences. In addition, text interpretation stimulates critical and analytical thinking, essential skills in the 21st century.

Spanish is the second most spoken language in the world and, in Latin America, it is the first. Knowing it is valuable for interacting with the Spanish-speaking community, whether for business, travel, studies, or just to appreciate its rich culture. Reading and interpreting texts in Spanish allows students not only to improve their Spanish skills, but also to expand their worldview.

Practical Activity: Interpreting the Hispanic World

Project Goal

The goal of this project is to develop the ability to interpret Spanish texts through the analysis of a news article from a Spanish-speaking newspaper. Students will also learn to work as a team, to manage their time, and to present their findings in a clear and concise manner.

Project Description

Divided into groups of 3 to 5 students, students must choose a news article published in a newspaper from a Spanish-speaking country of their interest. The news article must be recent (published within the last two weeks) and have at least two paragraphs of text.

After choosing the news article, each group must analyze the text in depth, describing the topic of the news article, the structure of the article, the style of the text, the words and expressions used, among other elements that they consider relevant. In addition, students should research the context of the news article outside of the text (recent events, history, culture, etc.) that help to better understand the news article.

Students must document the entire research, interpretation, and analysis process, in order to later write the final report.

Materials Required

• Access to the internet for research and presentations.
• Online Spanish-language newspapers.
• Paper and pen for notes.

Step by Step

1. Formation of groups of 3 to 5 students.
2. Choosing the news article to be analyzed.
3. Reading and interpretation of the news article.
4. Additional research to contextualize the news article.
5. Analysis of the text and context of the news article.
6. Writing the final report.

The project must be completed within one week.

Project Deliverables

At the end of the project, each group must submit a report of no more than two pages, in accordance with the following guidelines:

1. Introduction: In this section, the student must mention the reason for choosing the news article, the relevance of the topic, and its application in the real world.
2. Development: This should include the theory on text interpretation, a detailed explanation of the news interpretation process, the methodology used, and a discussion of the results obtained.
3. Conclusion: The student should highlight the main learning points of the project, the relationship between theory and practice, and the conclusions drawn from the activity.
4. Bibliography: This should indicate the sources used to complete the project.

Remember: the report is not just a written work, but a record of your findings, analyses, and conclusions. The goal is for the final report to reflect the students' learning process and to be a means of expressing their ideas in a clear and coherent way.
