However, it is not enough to have sensors capable of capturing this information. For these signals to be useful, our brain must be able to interpret them and associate them with learned concepts. This is what allows us, for example, to smell a certain odor and know that it is the aroma of coffee.

The senses are essential for our survival and well-being. The loss of one of them can represent a great challenge for a person's life, requiring an effort to adapt to this new situation.

Furthermore, the senses are closely linked to our experience and perception of the world. Colors, textures, aromas, and sounds are part of our daily lives and influence our interpretation of reality.

For this reason, the study of the senses is of great importance not only for the health field but also for various other areas such as psychology, marketing, design, gastronomy, among others. In all these areas, the sensory perception of individuals is a factor that can influence decisions and behaviors.

Project Objective

The objective of this practical project is to provide students with an opportunity to deepen their knowledge about the five senses of the human body, providing a practical understanding of the physiological processes that involve each of these senses and encouraging teamwork, critical thinking, and problem-solving.

Detailed Project Description

Students must form groups with a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 5 members. Each group will be responsible for conducting a detailed study of one of the five senses.

Each group's task will be to analyze their assigned sense in depth, with special attention to the physiological components involved, how the sense is processed and communicated to the brain, and the implications of the loss or alteration of that sense. The project should be developed over a period of 4 weeks, with each student dedicating a minimum of 12 hours of work.

Required Materials

The necessary resources will depend on each sense to be studied by the group. However, a basic list of resources that each group will likely need to include:

• Internet access for research
• Textbooks and scientific books covering human physiology
• Basic writing materials (pencils, paper, etc.)

Project Step-by-Step

1. Selection and study of the sense: Each group must choose one of the five senses to study. After the selection, the group should conduct in-depth research on the chosen sense, focusing on the physiological aspects involving the capture, transmission, and interpretation of sensory stimuli.

2. Simulation and experimentation: Groups must create a practical activity that illustrates how the sense works and how it influences the perception and interpretation of the world around us. The activity should include a simulation of what it is like to have this sense altered or lost.

3. Conducting the experiment with the class: The group must conduct the practical activity with the class, guiding classmates in the execution of the activity and answering any questions that arise.

4. Documentation and report: Each group must document all the project steps, the experiment results, and the lessons learned.

Project Deliverables

Each group is responsible for delivering a final report containing the following elements:

1. Introduction: The student must contextualize the theme, its relevance and application in the real world, as well as the objective of this project.

2. Development: Detail the theory behind the chosen sense, explain the activity in detail, indicate the methodology used, and finally present and discuss the results obtained.

3. Conclusion: Recapitulation of the main points, explaining the learnings obtained and the conclusions drawn from the project.

4. Bibliography: The student must indicate the sources they relied on to work on the project such as books, web pages, videos, etc.

The final report must be delivered in text format, with a minimum of 10 pages. It should contain images and/or graphics to illustrate key points and should be clear, complete, and precise in explaining the concepts and processes involved.
