Some notable examples are the Cuban Revolution in 1959, the election of Salvador Allende in Chile in 1970, and the so-called 'pink tide' of the early 2000s, when several Latin American countries elected socialist or social-democratic governments.

In this project, we will delve into the leftist governments in Latin America, analyzing their origins, political strategies, and socioeconomic impacts. We will do this through a literature review, analysis of films/documentaries, and a discussion forum. The goal is to gain a deeper and more balanced understanding of this important aspect of the Latin American political landscape, recognizing its achievements and challenges, as well as its complexity and diversity.

Leftist governments in Latin America are not a monolithic entity: they differ significantly in terms of their strategies and policies, as well as in terms of the specific historical and geographical contexts in which they emerged. At the same time, they share many common themes, such as a commitment to social justice, the challenge of implementing reforms in the face of internal and external opposition, and the constant struggle against inequality.

Activity Title: 'Journey through Latin American Leftist Movements'

Project Objective: To develop a deeper and more balanced understanding of leftist governments in Latin America, investigating their origins, political strategies, and socioeconomic impacts.

Detailed Project Description: The work will be divided into five interrelated steps: initial investigation, selection of case studies, in-depth research, creation of a documentary, and presentation of results.

1. Initial Investigation: Each group should research leftist governments in Latin America, focusing on their origins, implemented policies, economic and social effects, and impact on the region's geopolitics.

2. Selection of Case Studies: Groups must choose three specific countries as case studies for a more in-depth analysis. The choices should be justified based on the relevance of the selected countries or events to the overall understanding of the topic.

3. In-Depth Research: Each group must conduct in-depth research for each of the selected case studies. Studying primary sources (political speeches, constitutions, official policies) and secondary sources (academic articles, documentaries, news analyses) are crucial. This research should help answer the following questions: How did the left-wing government rise in these countries? What policies were implemented? What were the economic and social results of these policies? How did these countries position themselves in the geopolitical scenario?

4. Creation of a Documentary: The group must produce a short documentary (15 to 20 minutes) presenting their case studies. The documentary should consist of archival footage, interviews, graphics, and narration to tell the story of leftist governments in the selected countries.

5. Presentation of Results: Each group will present their documentary to the class and respond to questions and feedback from peers and teachers.

Materials Needed: Computer with internet access, video editing software (several free options are available, such as OpenShot), video camera (if available - a smartphone camera can also be used).

1. Form groups of 3 to 5 students.

2. Conduct initial research on leftist governments in Latin America, gathering general information and identifying potential countries for case studies.

3. Choose three countries for case studies and justify your choices.

4. Conduct in-depth research for each of the selected countries, addressing the proposed questions.

5. Plan and produce a documentary based on your research.

6. Prepare a presentation of the documentary and be ready to answer questions and receive feedback.

7. Finally, each group must prepare a written report, following the guidelines below:

   • Introduction: Contextualization of the theme and work objectives.
   • Development: Presentation of case studies, research methodology used, main results obtained, and discussion of these results.
   • Conclusions: Conclusions drawn from the project, lessons learned, and the relevance of the study.
   • Bibliography: Bibliographic references used in the project.

The estimated duration of this project is one month, from group formation to the presentation of the documentaries.

After this stage, you should create the project conclusion and the criteria for correcting the students' work. In this stage, the following evaluation criteria should be taken into account: 1. Commitment and participation of group members in project development, 2. Quality of the research conducted, 3. Quality of the documentary produced, 4. Clarity and organization of the presentation, 5. Quality of the written report, including coherence and cohesion in the text, correct spelling and grammar, use of bibliographic references. In addition, students should be directed to reflect on what they learned from the project, how they will apply these learnings in their lives and future studies, and the relevance of the topic studied. They should also evaluate the effectiveness of teamwork, the strategies that worked, and those that need improvement.
