Electricity: Work of the Electric Force

Practical Activity: The Paper Electric Lantern

Project Objective

To understand electric force and the work done by it in practice, through the construction of a paper electric lantern, using concepts of physics and engineering, and at the same time, developing collaboration, communication, and time management skills.

Project Description

Students will be divided into groups of 3 to 5 participants. Each group will have the task of building a paper electric lantern. The project will involve the application of key concepts such as electric force work, electric circuits, the function of resistance, energy production, and energy conservation. In addition, students will also apply mathematics knowledge to calculate the amount of energy used, the power of the lamp, among other variables. The project should take approximately 15 hours to complete, including time spent on preparation, execution, and writing the final report.

Required Materials

  • Cardboard paper
  • Conductive tape
  • LED lamp
  • 9-volt battery
  • Switch
  • Wire
  • Ruler
  • Scissors
  • Pen or pencil

Step by Step

  1. Plan the circuit: Draw a sketch of the circuit you plan to build on the lantern. Identify where each component will go, including the battery, the LED lamp, and the switch.

  2. Create the Lantern Body: Using the cardboard paper, draw and cut out the shape of your lantern. Remember, it should have enough space to accommodate the battery, LED, and switch.

  3. Assemble the circuit: Stick the conductive tape according to your sketch. Remember to make the correct connections. Place the LED lamp and switch in the designated locations. Connect the battery to the circuit.

  4. Test the Lantern: After assembling the circuit, test the lantern to verify that it is working correctly. If the LED lamp lights up, the circuit was assembled correctly.

  5. Calculations: Calculate the power of the LED lamp, the amount of energy the battery provides, and the amount of energy consumed by the LED lamp. Use the appropriate formulas to calculate these quantities.

Final Report

Students must prepare a report with the following topics:

  1. Introduction: Describe the project and its relevance. Explain the main concepts addressed in the project - electric force work, electric circuits, resistance function, energy production, and energy conservation and how these apply to the real world.

  2. Development: Explain in detail how the lantern was built and how the circuit was assembled. Include the circuit sketch and describe how each component was used. Discuss the calculations made, the results obtained, and the assumptions made.

  3. Conclusion: Summarize the main findings of the project. Discuss what was learned and how these learnings apply to real-life situations. How does electric force do work in the context of the project? What is your conclusion about the work of electric force based on the construction of the lantern?

  4. Bibliography: List all sources of information used for the project. These may include books, websites, videos, etc.

Remember that this report should be clear, complete, and accurate. It should reflect the lantern construction project, the skills, and knowledge acquired during its execution.
