Activity Title
Visualizing Electric Field Force Lines of Point Charges.
Project Objective
The project aims at providing students with a hands-on understanding of force lines and how they influence the behavior of charges within an electric field.
Detailed Project Description
The students will be divided into groups of 3-5 members and each group will have to assemble a three-dimensional model representing the electric field force lines of two point charges: one positive and one negative. Later, they must analyze the behavior of the force lines in that field and in relation to the charges.
Materials Required
- Styrofoam or clay balls (to represent the charges);
- Toothpicks;
- Colored thread or wool;
- Flat base, such as cardboard or a sheet of Styrofoam;
- Colored markers.
Detailed Step-by-Step Activity Procedure

Place two Styrofoam balls on the flat base, these will be your charges. Mark one as positive and the other as negative using the markers.

Use toothpicks to attach pieces of colored thread or wool to the positive "charge." These threads will represent the force lines leaving the positive charge.

Do the same for the negative charge, but keep in mind that the force lines enter the negative charge.

The "threads" should start at the positive charge and end at the negative charge, representing the path a positive charge would take if it were free to move.

Now, observe the pattern formed by the force lines. This is the electric field formed by the two charges.

The students must deliver the model they created, along with a detailed report on the project. The report should include:

Introduction: It should provide context to the theme, that is, explain what force lines are, why they are important, and what the objective of this project is.

Development: In this topic, the students must explain the theory behind force lines, describe in detail the model building activity, the methodology used, and present and discuss the results obtained.

Conclusion: The students must conclude the report by summarizing the main points of the work, specifying the lessons learned, and the conclusions drawn from the project.

Bibliography: The bibliographic references used in the project must be indicated in this topic.
The report should be written in such a way as to complement the three-dimensional model created during the project. In other words, the model represents the practical part of the work and the report the theory behind it.
