Verbs: Periphrastic Future

Contextualization

The "Future Verbal Periphrasis" is an important grammatical structure in the Spanish language that expresses the idea of future action. It is commonly used in various communicative situations, in all language variants. The periphrasis is composed of an auxiliary verb in personal form and a main verb in the infinitive. In this case, the verb "ir" is used as an auxiliary to express future actions.

For example, the sentence "Voy a estudiar español" expresses the future intention of studying Spanish. Note that here we use the auxiliary verb "voy" (form of the verb "ir") plus the preposition "a" and the main verb "estudiar" in the infinitive. This form is widely used because it expresses a more immediate, more certain future action.

Furthermore, this structure can also express a future plan or intention. For example, the sentence "Vamos a viajar a España el próximo año" shows a plan for the future.

Importance

Learning to correctly use the future verbal periphrasis in Spanish is crucial for fluency in the language, and helps to express ideas in a more natural and clear way. In addition, its frequent use demonstrates a more advanced level of language proficiency.

In real life, we constantly use future structures. Whether to talk about plans, commitments, dreams, or even to predict the weather. Mastering this structure in Spanish can also be useful in various communicative situations such as job interviews, casual conversations, oral and written presentations, among others.

Practical Activity

Activity Title: Future Scenario

Project Objective

This project aims at the practical and effective use of the future verbal periphrasis in a real context, promoting the understanding of this structure and its proper use. In addition, the project aims to stimulate cooperation and collaboration among group members, creative thinking, and effective communication in the Spanish language.

Detailed Project Description

Students will be divided into groups of 3 to 5 members. Each group must create a future scenario, which can be a description of how they imagine the world in 10 years, a narration of a story that will happen in the future, or even a script for a play or a short film set in the future.

In this work, students must use the future verbal periphrasis to describe future plans, predictions, and actions. They will have total freedom to choose the context and theme of the future scenario, as long as it follows the standard of the Spanish language.

Required Materials

  • Paper and pen for brainstorming and planning
  • Computers with internet access for research and final writing
  • Spanish grammar books and dictionaries

Detailed Step-by-Step for Activity Execution

  1. Each group should start the project with a brainstorming session, discussing ideas for the future scenario and planning the text construction.

  2. Next, students should research and review the use of the future verbal periphrasis in Spanish, using available resources (books, internet, videos, etc.).

  3. With the future scenario defined and the understanding of the future verbal periphrasis solidified, students should begin writing the text, using the correct and appropriate future verbal periphrasis.

  4. After the first version of the text is ready, students should revise, improve, and edit the text until it is finalized and ready for submission.

  5. Finally, each group should prepare an oral presentation of the text in Spanish, which will be presented to the class.

Project Deliverables

Students must submit a written document containing the future scenario text in Spanish. In addition, they must make an oral presentation of the text to the class.

At the end of the practical activity, each group must write a report, containing:

  • Introduction: contextualization of the theme and justification for the choice of the future scenario.
  • Development: explanation of the use of the future verbal periphrasis in the text, with examples extracted from the text.
  • Conclusions: reflection on the activity, learnings, and final considerations.
  • Bibliography: list of sources consulted for the project.

The report should complement the practical work done, demonstrating a theoretical reflection on the use of the future verbal periphrasis in the context of the project.
