There is no consensus on when this period began, but there is agreement on the main characteristics of this movement: intertextuality, plurality, loss of meaning, simulation, and the idea that truth is relative.

This movement is a reaction to the ideals of Modernism, which emphasized originality, the linearity of history, and the idea of progress. In Postmodernism, it is believed that all ideas are socially constructed, that art can consciously refer to other works of art, and that there is no objective 'truth'.

Postmodern art, specifically, questions the traditional concept of 'art' and 'artistic beauty'. It seeks to explore new forms of expression and presentations, deconstructing pre-established rules of what is and what is not considered art.

Practical Activity: 'Deconstructing Art: An Exhibition on Postmodernism'

Project Objective

The objective of this project is for students to deepen their understanding of the postmodern movement in art, investigating its characteristics and how it has impacted the art world. To achieve this, students will create a virtual exhibition on postmodern art, curating existing works and creating their own.

Detailed Project Description

Students will be divided into groups of 3 to 5 people. Each group will be responsible for creating a virtual exhibition in the form of a slide presentation (such as Google Slides, PowerPoint, etc), which should include:

1. An analysis of 3 to 5 postmodern artworks by different artists, exploring elements such as intertextuality, plurality, and loss of meaning.
2. The creation of 1 to 2 original works reflecting postmodern concepts.
3. An explanation of the selected and created works, addressing how they represent postmodern concepts.

Required Materials

1. Art supplies for creating the works (these may vary depending on the medium chosen by the group for their work).
2. Computer with internet access.
3. Presentation software (Google Slides, PowerPoint, etc).

Step by Step

1. Research: Students should start by researching postmodernism in art, exploring its characteristics and how they are manifested in different works. Use the recommended resources to delve deeper into the topic.

2. Selection of works: Each group should select 3 to 5 postmodern works by different artists for analysis. These works should be representative of the concepts learned.

3. Analysis of the works: Students should describe the postmodern characteristics in each selected work, explaining how they represent the learned concepts.

4. Creation of original works: Each group should create 1 to 2 original works representing postmodern concepts. The works can be in any medium (drawing, painting, photography, etc) and should be photographed for inclusion in the presentation.

5. Presentation creation: Students will compile their analyses and created works into a slide presentation. Each slide should contain an image of the work and an explanatory text.

6. Review and improvement: Groups should share their presentations with each other, receive feedback, and make improvements.

7. Final report development: After the exhibition ends, students should write a final report, including Introduction, Development, Conclusions, and Bibliography.

Project Deliverables

1. Virtual exhibition presentation: The presentation should be clear, organized, and visually engaging. It should contain images of the artworks and descriptions.

2. Created artworks: 1 to 2 artworks created by the group, representing postmodern concepts. The artworks should be photographed and included in the presentation.

3. Final report: The report should be 5 to 10 pages long, A4 format, Arial font, size 12, 1.5 spacing. Students should describe the process of creating the exhibition, analyze the selected and created works, discuss postmodern concepts and their implications. The report should be organized into four sections: Introduction, Development, Conclusions, and Bibliography.

4. Participation and collaboration: It is expected that all group members actively participate in the project and collaborate with each other. This will be evaluated through peer feedback and self-assessment.

5. Time management: Groups should demonstrate good time management throughout the project, completing all stages within the established deadlines.
