Detailed Project Description:

The project will be conducted in groups of 3-5 students with a month-long timeline. Each group will select between 10-15 organic halides for their compendium. Groups have the freedom to choose any halides that they like but will be assessed on the diversity of their selection. Choices of halides must be approved by the instructor before work begins.

Research sources for the project may include textbooks, reputable websites, and scholarly articles.

Materials Required:

There are no physical materials required for this project; however, students will need access to a computer with internet for research purposes and finalizing their compendium.

Detailed Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Group Formation and Halide Selection: Students will organize into groups and select the organic halides for their project. Choices of halides must be submitted to the instructor for approval.

  2. Research: Each member of the group should conduct detailed research on the chosen halides, including their chemical structure, properties, uses, and environmental impacts. Each team member should take responsibility for a portion of the chosen halides.

  3. Compendium Creation: The group should compile their research and build a "compendium" containing all of the information gathered. The compendium can be presented in any format that the group prefers, as long as it contains all the necessary information and is easy to read and understand. Groups can choose to create a digital compendium, a printed compendium, a poster presentation, or some other creative format.

  4. Compendium Presentation: Each group will present their compendium to the class, explaining their findings and the significance of the halides researched. Presentations should be between 10-15 minutes in length.

  5. Report: Upon completion of the project, students will write a formal report detailing the research process, findings, and conclusions. The report should include an introduction, body, conclusion, and bibliography.

Project Deliverables:

  1. Organic Halide Compendium: Each group will submit a final compendium for assessment. The compendium should be well-written, informative, and include all of the researched information.

  2. Presentation: Each group will give a 10-15 minutes presentation of their compendium, explaining their findings and the importance of the investigated halides.
