Capitalism: Review

Contextualization

Capitalism is an economic system based on private ownership of the means of production and free competition. This system, predominant in the current world, is characterized by the pursuit of profit and capital accumulation. It is an economic form structured on the idea that each individual is free to own and manage their own businesses, properties, and goods in general.

In this context, the discussion about 'Capitalism 2' arises, a term less commonly used but based on the idea of a post-industrial capitalism. Capitalism 2.0 (or Conscious Capitalism) advocates for a more responsible capitalism, with companies that have a higher purpose than just maximizing profits, also aiming at the well-being of employees, improving society, and reducing their environmental impact.

Capitalism 2 has been discussed and debated in various forums around the world, especially in developed countries, where the impact of industrialization and globalization has been more intensely felt. Understanding this discussion is important as it reflects the changes occurring in the global economy and how they are affecting people's lives.

Furthermore, this new economic model recognizes the importance of balancing economic benefits and socio-environmental impacts, valuing sustainability and social inclusion. It is a topic that should always be contextualized and analyzed from various perspectives, taking into account not only its economic benefits but also its effects on society and the environment.

Atividade Prática

Activity Title: Capitalism 2: From Theory to Practice

Project Objective:

The objective of this activity is to allow students to research, discuss, and collectively analyze the transition from traditional capitalism to Capitalism 2, reflecting on key topics such as conscious economy, sustainability, and social inclusion.

Detailed Project Description:

This activity will be carried out by groups of 3 to 5 students and should take around five to ten hours per student to complete.

Student groups will be tasked with researching a company that identifies itself as a practitioner of Capitalism 2, choosing a globally relevant company. After selecting the company, the groups should conduct a detailed research on the business practices of this company and how it aligns its business policies with the principles of Capitalism 2.

Each group should present a final report containing a detailed analysis and reflection on the approach of Capitalism 2 in the chosen company, illustrating how its policies and practices align with the principles of Capitalism 2.

Required Materials:

  • Internet access for research
  • Books, magazines, and scientific articles
  • Text editing software (Word, Google Docs, etc.)
  • Presentation software (PowerPoint, Google Slides, etc.)

Detailed Step-by-Step Guide for the Activity:

  1. Formation of working groups with 3 to 5 members each.
  2. Selection of a global company that identifies with the practices of Capitalism 2.
  3. In-depth research on the chosen company and its business practices, focusing on how they align with the principles of Capitalism 2.
  4. Preparation of a detailed and reflective report on the chosen company's approach to Capitalism 2, covering issues such as the pursuit of profit versus sustainability, socio-environmental impact, and social inclusion.
  5. Review of the report to ensure that all key points have been addressed and that the language is clear and concise.
  6. Presentation of the report to the rest of the class explaining the group's findings and reflections.

The written report should include an Introduction, where the group will present the chosen company and the reason for this choice, as well as explain the relevance of Capitalism 2 in the current context. In the Development section, the group should present the practices of the chosen company that align with the principles of Capitalism 2, relating them to the theories studied. The Conclusions should provide a reflection on the impact of these practices both for the business and for society and the environment. Finally, the Bibliography should list all the research sources used by the group.
