Introduction
The Amazon, also known as the 'lungs of the world,' is one of the biomes with the greatest biological and cultural diversity on the planet. It is home to more than a third of the planet's species and around 400 billion trees of 16 thousand different species. Moreover, it is the homeland of more than 385 indigenous peoples who depend on this forest for subsistence and maintain a deep connection with their land.
The Amazon biome extends across nine countries in South America and is crucial for regulating the global climate due to its ability to store carbon. However, this rich and extremely important region faces significant environmental and social challenges that require our attention.
The economy of the Amazon is multifaceted and complex, involving subsistence activities such as hunting, fishing, and collecting forest products by traditional communities, as well as large industrial operations such as mining, energy generation, and large-scale agricultural production. However, many of these economic activities can generate significant environmental impacts, such as deforestation, loss of biodiversity, climate change, and air and water pollution.
Relevance of the theme and its real-world application
Studying the Amazon, its biomes, the economy, and environmental impacts is of paramount importance for understanding how our actions have repercussions worldwide. Deforestation, for example, results not only in the loss of habitat for flora and fauna but also contributes to global climate change.
Furthermore, the inadequate exploitation of natural resources can lead to loss of biodiversity and ecosystem imbalance. This can harm local populations that depend on these resources for their livelihood and culture.
Understanding the complexity of these challenges is the first step in seeking ecologically viable and socially just solutions. In addition to helping us make more conscious decisions as consumers and citizens, this knowledge is crucial for those pursuing careers in areas such as environmental sciences, environmental law, politics, among others.

Project Objective
This project aims to provide students with a deeper understanding of the Amazon biome, the economic activities that impact the environment, and to propose sustainable solutions to the identified challenges.
Detailed Project Description
Students will work in groups of 3 to 5 people. Each group will choose one of the environmental or socioeconomic problems associated with the Amazon, such as deforestation, loss of biodiversity, climate change, air and water pollution, mining, large-scale agricultural production, etc. After choosing the problem, the groups should research it, identifying its main causes, impacts, and the affected populations. Based on this, the groups will design a sustainable solution for the chosen problem.

- Presentation software (PowerPoint, Google Slides, or similar)
Step by Step
- Divide into groups of 3 to 5 students.

- Bibliography: Indicating the research sources used for the project such as books, web pages, videos, etc.
