The Third Industrial Revolution, also called the Digital Revolution, occurred in the late 20th century with the advent of personal computers and the internet.

The Fourth Industrial Revolution is marked by the convergence of digital, physical, and biological technologies - a phenomenon often referred to as the “blurring” of the boundaries between these spheres. It promises to transform every aspect of society, from the way we produce goods and services to the way we communicate and interact with each other.

Project Goal

Understand the scope of the 4.0 Revolution. Analyze its impact on different sectors and regions, as well as the opportunities it presents.

Detailed Project Description

Students will be divided into groups of 3-5 people. Each group will be assigned an economic sector (e.g., agriculture, manufacturing, healthcare, transportation, education, etc.) to be studied with a geographical focus.

The activity will be divided into three main phases: research, analysis, and presentation.

1. Research: The group should conduct extensive research on the impact of the 4.0 Revolution on the assigned sector. The group should investigate how the 4.0 Revolution is transforming this sector both locally (city/region) and globally.

2. Analysis: The students should analyze the data collected and the literature used to identify patterns, trends, and opportunities. Furthermore, the students should contextualize the impact of the 4.0 Revolution within the broader context of sustainable development and social justice.

3. Presentation: Each group should produce an interactive digital map that visualizes the data and information collected. The group should use a digital mapping tool such as Google Earth or ArcGIS.

Step-by-Step Procedure for Completing the Activity

1. Research: The group should spend the first few hours of the project conducting extensive research on the 4.0 Revolution and its impact on the assigned sector. Special attention should be given to using credible sources.

• A discussion of the results, patterns and trends identified and their implications for the sector and for society as a whole (Development).
• A conclusion summarizing the main findings and reflections about the process (Conclusion).
• A complete list of the sources used during the project (Bibliography).

The final report and the interactive digital map should complement each other. The map should visualize the data and information that the report discusses; the report should, additionally, provide an in-depth analysis of the information presented on the map.

The total duration of the project is estimated to exceed twelve hours per student.
