Trigonometry: Sine, Cosine, and Tangent: Review

Practical Activity "Trigonometry in Action!"

Project Objective

Review basic trigonometric functions through direct application in real-world problems. Additionally, develop socio-emotional skills through teamwork, time management, and communication enhancement.

Project Description

Students will create a model representing a real-world trigonometry problem. They will have to use sine, cosine, and tangent functions to solve the proposed problem in the model. Each group must produce a model and a report explaining the problem-solving process.

Necessary Materials

  1. Cardboard or any material that can be used to build the model.
  2. Ruler.
  3. Pencils, pens, markers.
  4. Blunt scissors.
  5. Glue.

Step-by-Step

  1. Form groups of 3 to 5 students.
  2. Select a real-world trigonometry problem for your group. It can be any problem that requires the use of sine, cosine, and/or tangent.
  3. Draw a representation of the chosen problem, including distance measurements and angles.
  4. Use trigonometry concepts to solve the problem.
  5. Create a model of your problem. The model should clearly represent the scenario of the problem and the solutions found.
  6. Write a report of up to five pages, explaining the chosen problem, how it was solved, the trigonometry concepts applied, and the solutions found.

Deliverables

Each group must deliver:

  1. The model of the problem scenario and its solutions.

  2. The written report, which should be divided into 4 sections:

    a. Introduction: Present the chosen problem, its relevance, and real-world application. State the project's objective.

    b. Development: Explain the trigonometry concepts used and the methodology applied. Describe the activity in detail, present and discuss the results obtained.

    c. Conclusion: Summarize your main points and discuss what you learned from the project. Make reflections and final considerations about the process of carrying out the project.

    d. Bibliography: List all sources that helped complete the project, whether books, videos, websites, etc.

Note: Each group should invest about two to four hours of work per member to complete the activity. The deadline for submission will be one week from the project announcement date.

Remember that the goal is to learn and have fun. Good luck!
