Practical Activity

Activity Title: Philosophizing through History

Project Objective

The objective of this project is for students to research, analyze, and creatively present the evolution of philosophical schools from antiquity to contemporaneity. This work will allow students not only to understand the key ideas and concepts of philosophical schools in different periods but also the historical, social, and cultural context in which these ideas emerged.

Detailed Project Description

Students will be divided into groups of 3 to 5 members. Each group will be responsible for researching deeply about a particular philosophical school from a specific era (Antiquity, Middle Ages, Modernity, and Contemporaneity).

The groups will be responsible for producing a documentary about the chosen philosophical school. The documentary should include an introduction to the historical period, a review of the main ideas and thinkers of the school, a discussion of the influences and impacts of the school, and a reflection on the relevance of the school's ideas in the contemporary world.

Required Materials

  1. Computer with internet access for research and finalization of the documentary.
  2. Video camera or smartphone with video recording capabilities.
  3. Video editing software.
  4. Bibliographic research resources such as books, articles, reliable websites, etc.

Detailed Step-by-Step for Activity Execution

  1. Formation of groups and choice of the philosophical school to be investigated.
  2. Research and gathering of information about the chosen philosophical school and its historical context.
  3. Division of work among group members - who will research what, who will write the documentary script, who will be in charge of recording the footage, who will edit the video, etc.
  4. Writing the documentary script - should include information about the historical period, the philosophical school (its main ideas, philosophers, influences, and impact), and the relevance of these ideas in the contemporary world.
  5. Recording and editing the documentary.
  6. Finalization and presentation of the documentary to the class.

Project Deliverables

In addition to the documentary, students must write a written document of at least 10 pages, which should contain the sections Introduction, Development, Conclusions, and Bibliography used.

In the Introduction, students must explain the project's objective, the chosen philosophical school and the reason for the choice, and provide a contextualization of the corresponding historical period.

In the Development, students must detail the research and documentary production process. This includes the applied methodology, the documentary script, the main challenges encountered, and how they were overcome.

The Conclusions should summarize the main points of the project and the documentary, the lessons learned, and how these can be applied in other disciplines or in daily life.

Finally, the Bibliography should list all sources of information used in the project, properly cited following ABNT standards.
