In recent years, the discussion about the role of women in our society has gained even more relevance, and literature has not been left out of this conversation. The representations of women in the literary world have been evolving over the years, and currently, they take on leading roles, creating and influencing narratives.

In this project, we will deepen our understanding of the current role of women in literature. We will investigate how literary representations of women have evolved, examine examples of strong female protagonism in contemporary literature, and learn to distinguish and value these narratives.

Theoretical Introduction

Since the beginning of literary times, women have been present. However, they have not always been portrayed with the breadth and diversity that we see today. In antiquity, women generally held supporting roles, often stereotyped. Over the centuries, we see more women taking on roles as authors and protagonists in their works.

In the 18th and 19th centuries, many women had to use male pseudonyms to publish their works, as female voices were often not taken seriously in the literary world. But increasingly, we see a diversity of female voices emerging, each with their own stories to tell.

In the 21st century, we see an explosion of female authors and strong female characters in literature. More and more, women are bringing their own perspectives, experiences, and voices to the literary space, challenging stereotypes and elevating literature to new heights.

Practical Activity: Building a Female Literary Panel

Project Objective

The objective of this project is for students to develop a literary panel that highlights the evolution of the role of women in literature, from its origins to the present day. The panel should contain information about influential female authors, remarkable literary characters, and narrative developments that highlight the female perspective.

Project Description

Students will be divided into groups of 3 to 5 people. Each group should research the role of women in literature, starting from antiquity, through the Middle Ages, Renaissance, Enlightenment, to contemporaneity. Based on their research, they should create a panel that portrays the evolution of the female role in literature. Each group will have one week to complete the project.

• Cardboard or poster board
• Colored pens or markers
• Printed images
• Glue
• Scissors
• Internet access for research

Step-by-Step Procedure

1. Research: Start by researching the topic, consulting both printed and online materials. Use the book and website suggestions provided in the introduction as a starting point.

2. Planning: Next, plan how you will divide the information on the panel. It could be a timeline, for example, showing the evolution of women's representations in literature.

3. Creation: Create the panel using the collected material. Remember to highlight authors, characters, and works that demonstrate the evolution of the female role in literature.

4. Presentation: Each group will give an oral presentation explaining their panel and the conclusions of their research.

Project Deliverables and Written Document

In addition to the panel and oral presentation, each group must submit a written report, following these steps:

• Introduction: Include a brief description of the project, explaining what it is, what it is for, and its relevance in the current world. Also, include the project's objective.

• Development: Detail the research conducted, the creative process of the panel, the discoveries made by the group during the elaboration, justifying the choices made for the panel. Describe the difficulties encountered and how they were resolved.

• Conclusions: Summarize the learning that the group obtained from the project. Discuss how the project contributed to a better understanding of the evolution of the role of women in literature.

• Bibliography: Cite all sources used, whether books, websites, videos, among others.

The written report must be submitted along with the panel at the end of the stipulated deadline (one week), serving as a reflective and critical record of the group's learning during the project execution.
