Nominal Agreement

Contextualization

Nominal Concordance is one of the fundamental topics when it comes to Portuguese grammar. It is present in our daily lives, whether in casual conversations or in writing essays or more formal reports, but often goes unnoticed. To understand the Nominal Concordance, we must remember that in Portuguese, words that are related in the same context need to agree with each other in gender (masculine or feminine) and number (singular or plural).

In the context of grammar, the understanding of this concept will permeate all your textual productions, whether oral or written, thus ensuring the correct expression of your ideas. This concept ensures that your essays, reports and any textual production are correct, understandable and fluid.

The Nominal Concordance is an extremely relevant theme not only for your daily communication, but also for your future, whether taking an important exam like the ENEM or even in a job interview, where the ability to communicate clearly and efficiently is evaluated. Understanding and practicing this skill will guarantee not only your academic success, but also your professional career.

Whether writing an email, an essay or preparing a presentation, the Nominal Concordance is always present. It is a fundamental component of the language that allows us to convey our ideas and thoughts in a clear and effective way. Ignoring or not understanding its rules can lead to misunderstandings and communication difficulties.

To deepen your understanding and assist in your studies on the subject, I recommend the following resources:

  1. "Gramática da língua portuguesa" by Ataliba T. de Castilho, available in all libraries, for a complete and comprehensive view of the subject.
  2. Video "Concordância Nominal" from the "Português em Foco" channel on Youtube, for a fun and dynamic explanation of the subject.
  3. Articles from the "Só Português" website, especially about the "Special Rules of Nominal Concordance" for studying and practicing exceptions.
  4. Articles from the Portal da Língua Portuguesa, a project of the University of Coimbra, for a more in-depth and technical study.

Practical Activity - "Mastering the Concordance"

Project Objectives

This activity aims to allow students to:

  1. Understand and apply the rules and exceptions of the Nominal Concordance.
  2. Develop the ability to work in a team, dividing tasks and collaborating in the construction of a final product.
  3. Practice writing technical and academic reports, exercising the ability to synthesize and write.

Project Description

This project will challenge students to create a "Practical Guide to Nominal Concordance", in which they should clearly and didactically explain the rules and exceptions of the Nominal Concordance and exemplify these rules using texts from various sources such as books, newspapers, magazines, etc. In addition, they must correct sentences that contain nominal agreement errors.

Required Materials

  1. Grammar books and/or reliable websites dealing with the theme of Nominal Concordance.
  2. Writing materials (pen, pencil) and paper or a word processor on the computer.
  3. Various texts (books, newspapers, magazines, websites, etc.) that can be used to find examples and counter-examples of nominal agreement.

Step by Step

  1. Form a group of 3 to 5 students.
  2. Study the theme "Nominal Concordance" using the resources suggested in the introduction to this project or any other reliable sources.
  3. Divide the theme into parts. For example: general rules, special cases, examples and counter-examples.
  4. Each member of the group will be responsible for one of the topics, but all must collaborate and assist each other.
  5. Research in various texts for examples and counter-examples that illustrate the rules of Nominal Concordance.
  6. Each member of the group must write an educational text explaining the topic for which he or she is responsible, with examples and counter-examples.
  7. Gather all texts into a "Practical Guide to Nominal Concordance".
  8. Review the guide together, improving the writing and correcting any errors.
  9. Write a report, following the suggested format: Introduction, Development, Conclusions and Bibliography.

Project Deliverables

Students must submit the "Practical Guide to Nominal Concordance" and the report at the end of the activity.

The report must follow the suggested format:

  1. Introduction: Introduce the topic, its relevance and application in daily life and the objective of the project.
  2. Development: Explain what Nominal Concordance is, the activities carried out, the materials used, the methodology used, and present and discuss the results obtained.
  3. Conclusion: Review the main points of the activity, the learnings acquired and the conclusions about the importance of Nominal Concordance.
  4. Bibliography: Indicate all sources of information used in the project.
