Contextualization
Language is the main communication tool of society. Our thoughts, feelings, ideas, desires, and expressions are conveyed through it. One of the essential components of languages, especially in Romance languages, is the verb. A verb is the word that indicates events represented in time (past, present, or future), as well as the subject's state and action. Therefore, mastering verb conjugation is fundamental for assertiveness in communication.
In Portuguese, verbs are classified into three types: regular, irregular, and abundant. Regular verbs follow a pattern in all their forms, while irregular verbs have variations in some tense, mood, or person. Abundant verbs present more than one correct form in some aspects of their conjugation. In addition, verbs have primitive tenses (present, past perfect, future of the present indicative, and impersonal infinitive) and derived tenses (formed from the primitives).
In addition to understanding verb tenses and moods, it is important to perceive how they correlate and the role of uniform treatment in language. The correlation between verb moods and tenses occurs when we want to express an action that depends on another, and uniform treatment ensures the consistency of a discourse, whether formal or informal.
Introduction
Verbs are the backbone of any language, allowing the expression of actions, states, or natural phenomena. They are variable words that, through their inflections, indicate circumstances of time, mood, voice, number, and person. Understanding the structure and nuances of verbs is an important step for effective and appropriate communication. Therefore, delving into these peculiarities in High School is essential to prepare for the world, whether to take entrance exams, ENEM, or to have effective communication in your academic, professional, and personal life.
Learning grammar is not just about memorizing rules, but about understanding the structure of a language and how to use it to express oneself clearly and precisely. This project goes beyond textbooks, providing an opportunity to work in teams, debate ideas, learn from each other, and develop socio-emotional skills that will be valuable throughout life.
Practical Activity: "Verbal Journey: Primitive and Derived Tenses"
Project Objective
The objective of this project is to allow students to explore, research, and present information about verbs, focusing on primitive and derived tenses, as well as the correlation between verb moods and tenses and uniform treatment. Through this study, students should become more proficient in the use of verbs in the Portuguese language and create useful resources for other students.
Detailed Project Description
Students will create a "Verb Guide," which will include examples, definitions, and explanations. In addition, students must develop an Educational Game that involves the use of verbs, in which participants must correctly use verbs to advance in the game.
Required Materials
- Computers with Internet access for research.
- Materials for creating the Verb Guide (Paper, pens, markers, scissors, glue, etc).
- Materials for creating the Educational Game (May vary depending on the group's creativity: board, pieces, cards, etc).
Detailed Step-by-Step for Activity Execution
-
Research and Information Gathering: Students must divide into groups of 3 to 5 people and conduct in-depth research on the subject, consulting reliable and varied sources. Each group should focus on the following topics: primitive and derived tenses, correlation between verb moods and tenses, and uniform treatment.
-
Creation of the Verb Guide: After the research, the group must condense what they have learned into a Verb Guide. The guide should be visually appealing and easy to understand, including definitions and examples for each concept.
-
Development of the Educational Game: The group must create a game that involves the use of verbs in different situations. The game should be structured so that players are compelled to apply the concepts learned. It is important to have clear rules and well-defined objectives.
-
Testing the Educational Game: Before the final presentation, the group must test the game among themselves to ensure that it is working correctly and is truly educational.
-
Documentation: Parallel to research and creation, students must document the entire process. This documentation must follow the established format: Introduction, Development, Conclusions, and Bibliography.
-
Final Presentation: The group presents the Verb Guide, demonstrates the Educational Game, and shares their conclusions based on the results obtained.
Project Deliverables
Each group must produce:
-
A Verb Guide, including definitions, examples, and explanations about primitive and derived tenses, correlation between verb moods and tenses, and uniform treatment.
-
An Educational Game that reinforces the application and understanding of verbs in different situations.
-
A Written Document that narrates the creation process, challenges faced, solutions found, and conclusions drawn from the experience. The document should follow the proposed structure: Introduction, Development, Conclusions, Bibliography.
In the Introduction, students must contextualize the importance of the topic and provide an overview of the project.
In the Development, students must detail the research process, the creation of the Guide, and the development of the Game. It is important to present the methodology used and discuss the results obtained.
In the Conclusions, students must reflect on the acquired learnings and lessons learned from the experience, always referring to verbs and their particularities.
In the Bibliography, all sources consulted during the research must be listed.
Through this practical activity, students will have the opportunity to learn complex concepts in a fun and engaging way.
