The Thematic Vowel is the letter following the root, indicating the verb conjugation or the gender of the noun or adjective. The Theme is the combination of the root with the thematic vowel. Endings are suffixes that indicate tense, mood, number, and person in verbs or gender and number in nouns, adjectives, and some pronouns. Affixes are prefixes and suffixes that modify the meaning of the root. Finally, the Linking Vowel/Consonant serves to link the root to endings or suffixes that begin with consonants.

Project Objective

Enhance the understanding of word structure by practicing the identification of its components (root, thematic vowel, theme, endings, affixes, and linking vowel/consonant), as well as the ability to create new words, respecting these structures. Detailed Project Description

Students will be divided into groups of 3 to 5 people. Each group will receive a list of words that should be analyzed regarding their structure (root, thematic vowel, theme, endings, affixes, and linking vowel/consonant). In addition, each group should create new words, manipulating these components, and illustrate the meaning through creative drawings and visual concepts.

The groups should also produce a glossary with all the analyzed and created words, explaining the structure of each one, and a brief report on the work process.

• Paper and pen for notes.
