Context

Mathematics is intertwined in almost every aspect of our lives, from how we plan our days to how we understand the world around us. One of the fundamental concepts in mathematics that helps us understand space and shapes around us is that of polygons. We see them every day, from the way sidewalks are designed to the shape of traffic signs.

Polygons are closed flat figures composed of line segments. They are characterized by the number of sides they have and have a wide range of interesting properties. Learning about polygons helps us better understand and appreciate the geometry of the world around us.

In this project, we are specifically focused on a feature of polygons - their transformations. Polygon transformations can be understood as changes that occur in their position, size, or orientation. These transformations can be caused by multiplying the coordinates of their vertices by an integer.

Introduction

The study of polygon transformations has many practical applications. Computer engineers, for example, use transformations to change the scale of images and figures. In architecture, polygon transformations are used to create accurate representations of buildings and structures.

Furthermore, understanding polygon transformations is vital to grasp other more advanced mathematical concepts, such as trigonometry. Therefore, learning about polygon transformations and being able to apply them practically is a valuable skill that can be applied in a wide range of fields.

In this project, you will be challenged to work as a team to explore polygon transformations. You will need to perform transformations on polygons, identify which ones have undergone transformations and which have not, calculate the area and perimeter of the polygons, and finally, reflect on the impact of transformations in the real world.
