Context

In the real world, we are constantly using mathematics, often without even realizing it. A concept we frequently use is percentage, whether in calculating discounts, in statistical analysis, or even to express proportions. That's why learning how to convert decimal numbers and fractions into percentages is so important.

Moreover, the ability to make these conversions is a fundamental skill to solve many types of mathematical problems, making mastering this technique essential. Learning to convert fractions and decimal numbers into percentages helps us better understand mathematical concepts and allows us to apply them more effectively in everyday life.

Theoretical Introduction

The concept of percentage is widely used and represents a proportion out of a total of one hundred. When we convert a fraction or a decimal number into a percentage, we are essentially scaling that quantity to a total of 100.

Converting a decimal number to a percentage involves multiplying that number by 100. For example, to convert the decimal number 0.5 into a percentage, we multiply by 100, resulting in 50%.

On the other hand, converting a fraction to a percentage is done based on a simple rule of three. Consider, for example, the fraction 1/2, the first step is to divide the numerator by the denominator, resulting in a decimal number, 0.5, then again, we multiply 0.5 by 100, obtaining 50%, which is the percentage corresponding to the fraction 1/2.

Practical Activity: "The Percentage Game"

Project Objective

The objective of this project is to strengthen students' understanding of converting decimal fractions into percentages while developing social skills such as teamwork, time management, and problem-solving.

Detailed Project Description

The project will be carried out in groups of 3 to 5 students and will have a total duration of 12 hours of work per student. The project will involve two main subjects: mathematics and arts.

Students will be challenged to create an educational board game involving the conversion of decimal numbers and fractions into percentages. The game should be designed to be played in groups, encouraging collaboration among players.

Step by Step
