Urban Adventure

Contextualization

Urban adventures are a series of physical activities that use the city's infrastructure as a practice environment. In general, these activities establish direct contact with the urban space, making practitioners explore and interact with this scenario in a completely unusual way.

The city is seen as a large playground where a variety of activities can be carried out, ranging from street running, urban cycling, skateboarding, parkour, to more extreme activities such as urban climbing and BASE jumping.

The importance of the theme 'Urban Adventure' lies in the possibility of changing the perspective of interaction with public space, as well as enhancing physical activity in cities, providing a new look at the urban environment that is often treated only as a transit space between one point and another.

Aligned with environmental and mobility issues, urban adventure can also be an alternative for leisure and sports in open spaces, providing contact with the city's architecture and social interaction.

Introduction

The practice of physical activities in the concrete jungle, which we will call 'Urban Adventure,' goes beyond simple physical exercise, being seen as a form of resistance and claiming public space.

Urban adventures are an expression of youth culture, which seeks in challenge and risk a way to express and interact with the world. For this reason, these activities are not only a form of leisure but also a form of cultural expression that deserves to be valued and encouraged within the school environment.

These urban physical practices can vary greatly, being determined by the possibilities offered by the urban environment and the skills and interests of the practitioners. Thus, the theme 'Urban Adventure' allows the exploration of concepts related to physics, geography, history, physical education, and many others, providing a diverse and integrated currency of knowledge.

To delve into the theoretical and practical concepts necessary for the project, students can consult the following reliable sources:

  • Urban Adventure: Risk Sports Practices in the City - Book that explores the concept of urban adventure, with an emphasis on risk practices in the city.

  • Red Bull Blog - Presents a section on 'Adventure,' with various articles on extreme sports and urban adventures.

  • Canal OFF - Television channel and online platform completely focused on adventure sports.

  • Viva Aventura - Website that has several articles and information about the adventure and extreme sports universe.

  • Urban Adventure and the Moving Body - Academic article that discusses the concept of urban adventure and the body's relationship with urban space.

  • The Parkour Book - This work, available online, explores the practice of Parkour, one of the best-known forms of urban adventure.

Practical Activity

Activity Title: Exploring Urban Adventure: A Circuit of Challenges

Project Objective:

With the aim of exploring the theme of Urban Adventure within the Physical Education discipline, this practical activity proposes that students, divided into groups of 3 to 5, develop and execute a Circuit of Urban Challenges.

The activity aims to stimulate students' creative and collaborative thinking, as they will have to conceptualize, plan, and put into practice a series of physical activities that incorporate elements of the urban space.

In addition, the Circuit of Urban Challenges will allow students to identify and analyze the risks involved in the practice of urban physical activities and develop strategies to mitigate these risks.

Detailed Project Description:

The Circuit of Urban Challenges consists of the elaboration of three activities set in the school's space or an urban space around the school (with prior authorization from the authorities, if necessary). The activities should be designed to be carried out in groups, valuing collaboration and teamwork.

Students should research and identify different urban adventure body practices and, from there, in groups, create a circuit that includes at least three of these practices.

In each of the activities, students should seek to include challenges that promote skills such as balance, strength, agility, and coordination, and that can be performed safely.

Required Materials:

  1. Notebook or paper for activity planning
  2. Materials to mark the circuit route (masking tape, cones, chalk, etc.)
  3. Appropriate safety equipment for each activity (helmets, knee pads, etc.)
  4. Camera or smartphone to record the activities

Step-by-Step for Activity Execution:

  1. Gather in groups of 3 to 5 students.
  2. Research and discuss different urban adventure body practices.
  3. Together, develop a Circuit of Urban Challenges, thinking of three different activities that can be carried out in the urban space of the school or nearby.
  4. Make a detailed plan for each activity, describing what will be done, how it will be done, the necessary materials, and the safety measures that will be taken.
  5. Present the plan to the teacher and, after approval, carry out the activities.
  6. Record, through photos or videos, the activities' execution.
  7. After completing the circuit, the groups should write a report containing the following topics:

Introduction:

Students should describe the relevance of the Urban Adventure theme, contextualizing it in the current scenario. They should also explain the project's objective and its real-world application.

Development:

Students should explain the activities in detail, indicate the methodology used for planning and executing the activities, and finally present and discuss the results obtained. Images or videos recorded during the activity should also be included here.

Conclusion:

Students should point out the learnings obtained during the project's development and execution, as well as express their ideas and opinions about the activity.

Bibliography:

Students should indicate the research sources used for the project's development, including books, websites, videos, among others.

At the end of the activity, the report should be submitted to the teacher for evaluation.
