Contextualization
Invasion sports are practiced collectively and involve two teams competing in a common space, with the goal of invading the opponent's territory to score points. These sports, which include soccer, basketball, and handball, require athletes to have a variety of skills, including agility, speed, decision-making skills, and teamwork.
Invasion Sports are exciting and can be very strategic precisely because they require a combination of physical skills, technical and tactical skills, and, most importantly, the ability to work as part of a team. In an invasion sport, each individual has a role to play, but success can only be achieved if everyone works together.
These games tend to be very dynamic and unpredictable, as the ball can change possession at any time. This requires players to be able to quickly switch between offense and defense, which can be physically and mentally demanding. Players need to be able to make quick decisions under pressure, have good spatial awareness, and a game vision.
Invasion sports are an excellent way to teach students the importance of teamwork, strategy, and tactical skills. They can also teach valuable life lessons, such as the importance of communication, cooperation, and respect for the opponent.
Furthermore, learning about these sports allows students to better understand the world around them. They are present not only in our daily lives but also in major international events, such as the Olympics. Understanding them helps make these events more interesting and meaningful.
Deepening Knowledge
For a better understanding of invasion sports, we suggest some resources that can help with the study:
- What are Invasion Sports: a website with a detailed explanation of what invasion sports are and what their characteristics are.
- Invasion Sports on YouTube: a YouTube channel with educational videos about invasion sports.
- Team Sports: Introduction to Soccer, Volleyball, Basketball, and Handball: a book to deepen knowledge about various invasion sports.
Practical Activity
Title: "Planned Invasion - Deconstructing and Reconstructing Invasion Sports"
Project Objective
The objective of this project is to unravel the complexity of invasion sports through the deconstruction and reconstruction of their concepts. It is expected that students learn about tactics, rules, necessary skills, the importance of teamwork, communication strategies, and become familiar with the study of movement.
Detailed Project Description
For this project, students will be divided into groups of 3 to 5 people and must choose an invasion sport to study. The project will be divided into three phases: Research, Deconstruction, and Reconstruction.
1. Research
In this phase, groups should research the chosen sport. The study should include the rules, the sport's history, the different technical skills required, game tactics, and the importance of teamwork. The research should include direct observation, that is, watching live or recorded matches of the chosen sport. The use of academically recognized sources to learn more about the sport is also encouraged.
2. Deconstruction
In the deconstruction phase, groups must "disassemble" the studied sport, identifying its central components. This includes identifying the main necessary skills, tactics, rules, and communication strategies. They must also identify the role of physics in the sport, including the analysis of movement and the influence of forces involved.
3. Reconstruction
In the reconstruction phase, groups must "reassemble" the sport, explaining how all components fit together. They must be able to explain how rules, skills, tactics, and communication strategies work together to create the sport they studied. The project will be concluded with the practical application of the sport, where students will demonstrate the skills, tactics, and rules they learned by playing a match.
Necessary Materials
- Paper and pencil for notes
- Internet access for research
- Equipment needed to practice the chosen sport (e.g., ball, cones, etc.)
- Suitable location to play the chosen sport (field or court)
Step-by-Step for Activity Completion
- Group division and choice of the sport to be studied
- Research on the sport (rules, history, tactics, technical skills, etc.)
- Direct observation of matches of the chosen sport (live or recorded)
- Deconstruction of the sport
- Reconstruction of the sport
- Practice of the chosen sport
- Writing the report
Project Deliverables
At the end of the project, each group must submit a detailed written report and make an oral presentation. The report should include:
- Introduction: Contextualization about invasion sports, description of the chosen sport, justification for the choice of the sport, and project objectives.
- Development: Detailed description of the research, deconstruction, and reconstruction processes of the sport, including a detailed analysis of the sport's components, such as rules, tactics, technical skills, and physics, the discussion on the importance of teamwork and communication strategy.
- Conclusion: Reflection on what was learned, the main difficulties encountered and possible solutions, the results obtained, the strengths and weaknesses of the project, and how this could be applied in other contexts.
- Bibliography: Sources used for research.
The oral presentation should summarize the main points of the report and include a practical demonstration of the chosen sport. The demonstration should include an explanation of the rules, important movements and tactics, and the technical skills necessary to play the sport.
Students should be encouraged to use visual resources, such as photos and videos, both in their oral presentation and in the written report. All of this will allow students to explore key theoretical concepts about invasion sports and at the same time develop important technical and socio-emotional skills.
