Both forms of writing have much in common but also have their distinctive characteristics. When writing a diary, the writer has the freedom to explore their most intimate thoughts and feelings, while the travelogue requires a level of objectivity, focus on travel details, and an effort to engage the reader.

Diaries and travelogues can be found all over the world and in all eras. They are often a valuable resource for historians as they offer insights into daily life, customs, and historical events. They are also a source of entertainment and inspiration for readers and writers. Project Objective

Through this activity, students will be able to differentiate and practice two distinct types of narrative typology: diary and travelogue. This project aims to develop technical writing skills, as well as socio-emotional skills such as teamwork, time management, and creative thinking.

Detailed Project Description

Each group of 3 to 5 students will plan and write a Ship's Log of an imaginary seven-day journey. The journey can be to any place in the world, the sky's the limit. The important thing is that each day of the journey is recorded both as a diary entry and as a travelogue.

Required Materials

1. Notebook or sheets of paper: for drafting and notes.
2. Computers or tablets: for creating the final material.
3. Books, internet, documentaries: for research on the chosen travel destination.

Detailed Step-by-Step for Activity Execution

1. Research and Planning (duration: 1 hour): Each group chooses a destination for the seven-day journey. Research the chosen location, map out the tourist spots, the local culture, customs, typical foods, etc.

2. Drafting (duration: 1 hour): Write the draft for each day of the imaginary journey. Each day should contain two entries: one as a diary and the other as a travelogue.

3. Revision (duration: 1 hour): Review the drafts, ensuring that the diary texts are personal and reflective, and the travelogue entries are detailed and objective.

4. Final Writing (duration: 1 hour): Write the final version of the Ship's Log on a computer or tablet, ensuring coherence, no spelling or grammar errors, and alignment with the initial planning.

5. Final Report (duration: 1 day): Each group must write a project report consisting of: Introduction (project context, objective, and relevance), Development (explanation of diary and travelogue theory, detailed description of the activity carried out, and discussion of the results obtained), Conclusion (summary of the main points, learnings, and conclusions about the project), and Bibliography used.

Project Delivery

In addition to the Ship's Log, students must deliver a report detailing the project execution: Introduction (with the relevance and practical application of the project, the theme, and the objective), Development (diary and travelogue theory, activity details, methodology used, and results discussion), Conclusion (summary of the main points and learning obtained), and Bibliography.
