Simple and Compound Sentences

Contextualization

The Portuguese is a rich and complex language, whose beauty lies in its ability to express emotions, thoughts, and ideas accurately. Among the many components that make it up, periods are essential elements that help us organize our sentences better and make our messages clearer and more understandable.

A period is a sentence that has complete meaning and is usually ended by a period (end, question, or exclamation). They can be classified as simple, when formed by only one clause, and compound, when formed by two or more clauses.

Compound periods can be divided into two types: by coordination and by subordination. In the first case, the clauses are independent of each other, and in the second, one clause depends on the other to make sense.

Understanding the difference between these periods and knowing how to identify each type is essential to improve writing and reading. In addition, the correct use of these periods allows for a greater variety of expressions, making communication richer and more expressive.

The ability to use simple and compound periods efficiently is a highly valued attribute in the real world. It is a key element in writing and reading, becoming indispensable for several professions such as writers, journalists, lawyers, teachers, among others. In addition, it is a necessary skill to write clearly and concisely in various everyday situations, such as composing an email, writing a letter, or writing a report.

Therefore, deepening into this topic and improving these skills is of utmost importance. In this sense, this project was created to provide students with the opportunity to learn this important content in a fun and collaborative way.

To delve deeper into the subject, I suggest accessing the following resources:

  1. Só Português - Período Composto: This site contains detailed explanations on the subject and examples that facilitate understanding.
  2. Brasil Escola - Exercícios sobre período composto: Offers various exercises that will help you practice and consolidate what you have learned.

Practical Activity: "From Simple to Compound - A Board Game"

Project Objective

The objective of this project is to allow students, organized into groups of 3 to 5 members, to learn about simple and compound periods in a fun and collaborative way. In addition to deepening the theoretical understanding of the subject, through "learning by doing", students will also improve socio-emotional skills such as communication, time management, teamwork, and creative thinking.

Project Description

The groups will be tasked with creating a board game that helps teach and learn about simple and compound periods. The game should be challenging, fun, and full of opportunities for players to practice identifying and writing simple and compound periods. To complement the practical activity, students will also need to write a detailed report on the project.

Materials Required

  • Cardboard or cardboard
  • Colored markers
  • Figures (for the game board and pieces)
  • Dice
  • Computer with internet access
  • Research material (books, reliable websites, etc.)

Step-by-step procedure:

1. Research and Study (4 hours): Each member of the group must conduct a detailed research on simple and compound periods. The basic concepts, differences, applications, and examples should be well understood by all members of the group. During this process, students should collaborate and learn together, clarifying each other's doubts.

2. Game Development (8 hours): After the research phase, the group should meet to develop the game concept. It is important to ensure that the game is able to test and reinforce players' knowledge of simple and compound periods. Use your creativity to create interesting and engaging rules.

3. Game Production (12 hours): With the concept ready, it's time to produce the game. Production involves designing the game board, creating the written rules, cards (if any), pieces, and anything else that is necessary for the game to be playable.

4. Testing the Game (4 hours): Once the game is ready, it is time to test it. This phase will allow them to identify possible flaws and points for improvement.

5. Adjustments and Finalization (4 hours): After testing, the final step is to adjust the final details of the game, correcting identified flaws, refining the rules, and improving the presentation.

6. Writing the report (12 hours): In parallel with the production and testing of the game, students should start writing the project report, which should address the following points: Introduction (contextualization of the theme, relevance, and real-world application, objective of the project), Development (theory behind the theme, detailed description of the activity, methodology used, presentation, and discussion of the results), Conclusion (resumption of the main points, lessons learned, and conclusions about the project), and Bibliography (sources used for the project).

Project Delivery

The final project will be the delivery of the board game and the report. Students should present the game in class, explain its rules, and, if possible, give a demonstration. The project report should complement the practical part, presenting in detail the knowledge acquired, the experience of building the game, and the skills developed during the project.

Students should ensure that the report is well-structured and organized, containing all the required elements (Introduction, Development, Conclusion, and Bibliography). This document will be essential to assess students' theoretical understanding of simple and compound periods, as well as their socio-emotional skills.
