Verbal and Nominal Regency

Contextualization

Welcome, dear students, to our project on Verbal and Nominal Regency, two pillars of the Portuguese Language grammar that allow clear, precise, and effective communication. Understanding Regency is essential to produce correct texts and interpret the texts we are exposed to daily, whether in a leisure reading, in a test text, or in a text message on the cell phone.

Verbal Regency refers to the relationship established between verbs and their complements. Some verbs require the presence of a direct object (without preposition), others of an indirect object (with preposition), or both. Nominal Regency, in turn, refers to the relationship between names (nouns, adjectives, and adverbs) that require a complement and this complement, which is always indicated by the presence of a preposition. Understanding these two nuances of the Portuguese Language is essential for the composition of complex and rich textual productions.

Understanding these topics not only improves the ability of expression but also of comprehension. In many situations, a change of preposition can completely alter the meaning of a sentence, giving a new significance to the message one wishes to convey. Therefore, a good command of Verbal and Nominal Regency can help both in comprehension and in a clearer and more effective transmission of ideas.

The importance of Verbal and Nominal Regency is not limited to the school environment. In fact, these concepts are fundamental in the real world, whether in the work environment or in the personal sphere. The ability to communicate effectively is one of the most valued skills today, and the mastery of regency is a key component to achieve this effectiveness. Furthermore, in daily life, we are constantly bombarded with written information, and the ability to correctly interpret these messages is fundamental for our navigation in the modern world.

To delve deeper into the topic, I suggest the following reliable sources in Portuguese:

  1. Norma Culta - Regency
  2. InfoEscola - Verbal and Nominal Regency
  3. Mundo Educação - Verbal Regency
  4. Mundo Educação - Nominal Regency

With these resources, you will be able not only to understand the fundamental concepts but also to discuss them in an informed and in-depth manner.

Practical Activity

Activity Title: "Theatrical Adaptation: Directing the Portuguese Language"

Project Objective:

The objective of this activity is to explore Verbal and Nominal Regency in practice, through the adaptation of a scene from a literary work into a theater play. In addition to developing linguistic skills, the project also aims to exercise the literary and artistic creativity of the students, as well as their teamwork ability.

Detailed Project Description:

The groups (composed of 3 to 5 students) will select a scene from a literary work (book, short story, poem, etc) and adapt it for the theater. During the adaptation, the students must seek to identify and apply the use of Verbal and Nominal Regency in the dialogues.

Next, they must script the scene, clearly identifying the lines, the actions of the characters, and the setting. The script must be carefully reviewed by the group to ensure that Verbal and Nominal Regency are correct.

The students must also produce the props and the setting for the play. They can use recyclable materials, drawings, paintings, and other materials they deem necessary.

Finally, the groups will present the scene to the class and discuss the use of Verbal and Nominal Regency in it. They must be prepared to explain their choices and solutions for Regency.

Necessary Materials:

  • Books, short stories, poems, or other literary works for choosing the scenes to be adapted;
  • Paper and pen for the script;
  • Various materials for creating the setting and props (cardboard, colored pens, fabrics, etc)

Detailed Step-by-Step for Carrying Out the Activity:

  1. Form groups of 3 to 5 students;
  2. Each group must choose a literary work and select a scene to adapt for the theater;
  3. Script the scene, identifying the lines, the actions of the characters, and the setting;
  4. Seek to identify and apply the use of Verbal and Nominal Regency in the dialogues. Carefully review the script to ensure that Verbal and Nominal Regency are correct;
  5. Produce the props and the setting for the play;
  6. Present the scene to the class and discuss the use of Verbal and Nominal Regency in it. The students must be prepared to explain their choices and solutions for Regency.

Project Delivery and Writing of the Written Document:

After the play presentation, each group must write a report on the project. The report must contain:

  1. Introduction: Presentation of the chosen scene and clear and concise explanation of the report's theme, Verbal and Nominal Regency, as well as the importance of this for textual production and comprehension.

  2. Development: In this section of the report, the students will address the theory behind Verbal and Nominal Regency, explain the activity carried out in detail, indicate the methodology used in the production of the theater play, and finally present and discuss the results obtained.

  3. Conclusions: After presenting and discussing the results obtained, the students will conclude the work by summarizing their main points, explaining the learnings obtained, and drawing conclusions about Verbal and Nominal Regency from the project execution.

  4. Bibliography: Finally, each group must indicate the sources consulted for the report production.

Note: The report must be written in a way that fits and complements the work done in the project. Here, the students will have the opportunity to reflect on the activity and to work on and deepen their knowledge about Verbal and Nominal Regency.
