The verb is one of the most important grammatical classes in the Portuguese language, and it is essential for the elaboration of any sentence or text. Through verbs, we express actions, states, and phenomena, situating them in time (past, present, future). Therefore, understanding and using verbs correctly are essential for constructing meaning in our verbal expressions, both in speech and writing.

Knowing and correctly applying verbs in a sentence is not just a matter of formal norm. It is also, and mainly, a matter of effective communication. In the real world, improper use of verbs can lead to misunderstandings, incorrect information, and even serious problems. Think, for example, of drafting a contract, a newspaper article, or a college entrance exam. It is remarkable that mastering this grammatical class can open up a vast field of possibilities for those who wish to express themselves clearly and objectively.

Practical Activity: Verb Journey

Project Objective:

The project aims to lead students to identify verbs and their constituent terms in real texts, as well as to produce their own texts, using verbs and their terms correctly.

Detailed Project Description:

Divided into groups of 3 to 5 people, students will have to:

1. Conduct research in magazines and newspapers (online or print), looking for texts of different genres (news, chronicles, letters, advertisements, etc.). Each group must select 5 texts.

2. In each selected text, identify the verbs and their constituent terms (subject and its modifiers, verb and its complements and modifiers).

3. After identification, each group must choose ONE text and REWRITE IT, replacing the verbs and their constituent terms, but maintaining the original meaning of the text.

4. Finally, each group must produce a report where they will present the theory about verbs and constituent terms, the step-by-step of the activity, the discussion on the importance of verbs and their terms in text construction, and the selected and modified texts.

Necessary Materials:

Computers with internet access for research and report writing, magazines and newspapers for research, paper sheets, pens.

Step by Step:

1. Form groups and explain the activity.
2. Conduct text research in magazines and newspapers, selecting 5 texts of different genres (1 hour).
3. Identify the verbs and their constituent terms in the selected texts (2 hours).
4. Choose one of the texts and rewrite it, replacing the verbs and their terms, but maintaining the original meaning (2 hours).
5. Write the report following the teacher's guidelines (4 hours)

Project Delivery:

Groups must deliver the report containing the following sections:

1. Introduction: A brief contextualization of the theme of verbs and their relevance and application in the real world. In this section, the group must also present the purpose of the project.

2. Development: Presentation of the theory about verbs and their constituent terms, detailed explanation of the activity carried out, including the methodology for choosing and analyzing texts, identifying verbs and their terms, and the methodology for rewriting the texts.

3. Conclusions: Presentation of the selected and modified texts, discussion of the learning obtained and the importance of verbs and their terms in text construction and effective communication.

4. Bibliography: Bibliographical references of the sources used for theoretical study and for carrying out the activity.

At the end of the project, students will have improved not only their knowledge of verbs and their constituent terms but also the ability to work in groups, manage time, communicate ideas clearly, and solve problems.
