World: Globalization

Contextualization

Introduction

Globalization is a process that has its roots in the development of capitalism and has intensified with the technological advances of the 20th and 21st centuries. It refers to the increasing interconnection and interdependence between different countries and cultures around the world. Moreover, this trend has created a global network of economic, political, social, and cultural relations. In this work, we intend to explore three key concepts that are closely linked to globalization: transnational corporations, the process of industrialization and its consequences on labor, and the current scenario of tensions and conflicts in the African continent.

Transnational corporations play a fundamental role in globalization, as they are responsible for a large part of international trade and foreign direct investment. They also have a profound influence on people's lives, from consuming products to work processes. Furthermore, global economic organizations such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Trade Organization (WTO) are essential for regulating global trade and economy.

The process of industrialization has drastically changed the nature of work, and this change is an intrinsic part of globalization. Technological innovation has allowed more tasks to be automated and work to be carried out in different parts of the world. In Brazil, this has had complex effects, with some industries benefiting and others facing challenges.

Contextualization

Africa is a continent with a long history of conflicts that have been, in many cases, exacerbated by the process of globalization. Competition for natural resources, border disputes, and interference from foreign powers are some of the issues that have led to tensions in the region. These issues are an example of the complexity of globalization and its consequences, often unforeseen.

Globalization has immense relevance in our daily lives, whether in the way we consume products, the way we work, or even in how we relate to the world. By understanding the characteristics of globalization, we can become more conscious and critical citizens, capable of understanding the complexities of the world we live in and participating more effectively in decisions that affect our lives.

Practical Activity

Activity Title: "Global Map of the Impact of Globalization"

Project Objective

This project aims to analyze the impact of globalization in different parts of the world, particularly regarding the role of transnational corporations, the process of industrialization and its consequences on labor, and the current tensions and conflicts in Africa.

Detailed Project Description

Groups of 3 to 5 students will be responsible for creating a "Global Map of the Impact of Globalization." This map will be a visual presentation of the various ways in which globalization impacts different parts of the world and how the concepts we studied are interconnected on a global scale.

Students will research and gather information about different regions, including how transnational corporations operate in these regions, how the process of industrialization has affected the nature of work, and how globalization has contributed to tensions and conflicts in Africa.

Required Materials

  • Internet access for research.
  • Material for creating the presentation (Powerpoint, Google Slides, etc).

Detailed Step-by-Step for Activity Completion

  1. Region Selection: Each group should select three different regions of the world to focus on in their studies (one industrialized country in the northern hemisphere, one developing country in the southern hemisphere, and one country in Africa).

  2. Research: Next, they should research how each region has been affected by the concepts we studied: transnational corporations, industrialization, and tensions/conflicts in Africa.

  3. Map Creation: Based on the collected information, students will create a visual presentation that explains how globalization has impacted the selected regions.

  4. Group Discussion: After creating the map, groups should reflect and discuss their findings and share their conclusions.

  5. Final Presentation: Each group will present their "Global Map of the Impact of Globalization" to the classroom, highlighting their discoveries and reflections.

Project Deliverables

Students must deliver the presentation of the "Global Map of the Impact of Globalization" and a written report detailing the entire project implementation process.

Written Report

The report should include the following topics:

  1. Introduction: Introduce the theme and relevance of globalization, the project's objective, and the regions chosen for the study.

  2. Development: Describe the theory behind the topics covered (transnational corporations, industrialization, and tensions in Africa), the activities carried out (research, map creation, group discussion), the methodology used for research, and the presentation and discussion of the results.

  3. Conclusion: Summarize the key points of the project, the lessons learned, and the conclusions drawn about the impact of globalization on the regions studied.

  4. Bibliography: List all sources used in the research.

Remember: the written report is an essential part of the project that complements the information in the "Global Map of the Impact of Globalization." Therefore, it should reflect teamwork and a deep understanding of the topic by the group.
