Therefore, it also faces a variety of environmental challenges, whose understanding is essential to comprehend the current and future human impact on the planet. By studying these issues, students will have the opportunity to explore important topics in geography, social sciences, and environmental sciences.

The environmental problems that Asia faces are many and varied - from air pollution in major cities like Beijing and Delhi, to the degradation of tropical forests in Southeast Asia. Economic and population growth has led to the intensive use of natural resources, resulting in numerous environmental impacts.

Importance of the Theme

In today's interconnected world, understanding Asia's environmental problems is not only relevant to those living on the continent, but to all of us. The production and consumption choices made in Asia affect the climate and environment worldwide. Similarly, the impacts of climate change in Asia will have global consequences. Furthermore, the solutions to these challenges will shape the future of sustainable development on the planet.

Studying Asian environmental problems is also important to increase environmental awareness and understanding of the complex relationships between society, economy, and the environment. In addition, this analysis promotes a critical examination of our own consumption practices and how individual and collective choices can contribute to environmental problems.

Practical Activity

Title: "Journey through Asia: a documentary on environmental issues"

Objective:

This project aims to deepen students' knowledge of the environmental problems existing in Asia, their relationship with industrialization, and how the solutions to these problems can influence the future of sustainable development on the planet. It aims to integrate the disciplines of Geography and Sciences, as well as develop socio-emotional skills such as teamwork, time management, and critical thinking.

Methodology:

Students will be divided into groups of 3 to 5, and each group will be tasked with researching, developing, and producing a documentary on a specific environmental problem found in an Asian country. This documentary should include the description of the environmental problem, its causes and consequences, mitigation strategies (if existing and effective), and suggestions for sustainable solutions.

Required Materials:

• Internet access for research
• Video recording equipment (can be a smartphone)
• Video editing software (any basic software will suffice)
• Material to develop a script and a filming plan

Project Steps:

1. Research: Students must research different environmental problems in Asia and choose one to be the focus of their documentary. Relevant data about the problem, its origin, current and future impacts, and any efforts to mitigate it should be considered.

2. Planning: Based on the research, students must create a detailed script for the documentary. This script should have an introduction that explains the environmental problem and its relationship with industrialization, a development that discusses the impacts and causes, and a conclusion that highlights possible solutions and reflections for the future. Additionally, a filming plan must also be created.

3. Documentary Production: After the approval of the script and filming plan by the teacher, students must record and edit their documentary, remembering that clear and precise communication of information is important.

4. Presentation and Reflection: Finally, the groups will present their documentaries to the class, followed by a question and answer session with the other students and teachers. Each group must also write a reflection on what they learned from the experience, both in terms of content and skills.

Project Deliverables:

• The final version of the video documentary, lasting at least 15 minutes and at most 30 minutes.

• A detailed script and filming plan for the documentary.

• A written report in the form of a scientific report. This document should follow the following structure:

  • Introduction: Relevance of the chosen problem, contextualization of the problem in the Asian and global scenario, and project objective.

  • Development: Detailed explanation of the chosen environmental problem, its causes, impacts, and solution strategies. Detailing the documentary production process, from research to video editing. Presentation and discussion of the results obtained.

  • Conclusion: Review of the main points addressed in the work and the documentary, emphasizing the learnings and conclusions drawn from the project.

  • Bibliography: List of information sources used in the project.

• A written reflection regarding the experience of teamwork, the learning obtained, and the relevance of the project.
