Globalized World

Introduction

Living in a Globalized World may seem like a new concept to many of us, but it is a reality that is increasingly present in our lives. In this project, we will approach and understand what globalization is and how its formation and development occurred.

Globalization consists of the integration of markets and circulation of people, information, and goods around the world, eliminating borders and reducing distances. This process may be seen as a modern phenomenon, resulting from technological development and advancements in communication and transportation.

The history of globalization is broad and complex, involving significant historic events such as the capitalist crisis of 1929, the Cold War, the adoption of different economic policies in Latin America, transformations in local and global political relations caused by the development of digital technologies, among others. These events not only shaped the world geopolitical order, but also contributed to the construction and consolidation of globalization as we know it today.

The Importance of a Globalized World

In the face of growing interdependence and connection between countries, understanding the globalized world is critical. Globalization directly affects our local economies, communication networks, cultural expressions, and even how we perceive ourselves as citizens of the world.

The globalized world also presents new challenges and opportunities. On the one hand, it has contributed to unprecedented cultural exchange, access to a myriad of information, and the formation of global communities. On the other hand, globalization has also exacerbated social inequalities, generated geopolitical tensions, and triggered large-scale migration movements.

To explore this subject in more depth, we suggest a list of resources that may help your understanding and further your knowledge:

  1. Book: "Mundo Globalizado" (Globalized World), by Paulus Arato.
  2. Documentary: "The Age of Globalization" available on Netflix.
  3. Website: Globalization - This is a link to the page on Globalization on BBC Brasil.
  4. Podcast: "A história da Globalização" (The History of Globalization), available on Spotify.

Remember that these resources are starting points and your curiosity and thirst for knowledge are the main fuels for deeper and more meaningful learning.

Practical Activity: Building an Infographic of a Globalized World

Project Objective

The practical activity aims to build an infographic on a central aspect of globalization chosen by the group. The infographic should be a historic and contemporary portrayal, presenting an overview of globalization, its advantages, disadvantages, and impacts on society.

Detailed Description of the Project

Students should divide themselves into groups of 3-5 participants to carry out the project. They must choose one aspect of globalization to explore in more depth. Examples of themes that may be chosen include:

  1. Economic aspects of globalization
  2. Technological impact on globalization
  3. Globalization and its effect on local cultures
  4. Global migration
  5. Globalization and the environment

After choosing the theme, students should conduct a comprehensive research to collect data and information. We recommend using the resources suggested earlier, in addition to history books, reliable websites, periodicals, among others.

Necessary Materials

  1. Computer with internet access for research
  2. Image editing software (which may be a free online tool)
  3. Materials for note-taking (pencils, paper, etc.)

Step by Step

  1. Group formation and theme definition.
  2. Research: Each group member must seek information and gather relevant data on the chosen theme.
  3. Discussion: The group should meet to discuss the information collected, identify correlations, trends, and key points.
  4. Infographic Planning: The group should plan the structure of the infographic. This includes deciding on which information to include, how to organize it in a logical way, and how to present it in a clear and attractive manner.
  5. Infographic Creation: Using an image editing software, the students should build the infographic. We recommend using free online tools such as Canva or Piktochart.
  6. Review and Editing: The group must review the infographic, looking for opportunities to improve the accuracy of the information and the clarity of presentation.

The estimated time to complete the project is two to four hours per participating student. The project should be submitted within one week.

Project Deliverables

Upon completion of the practical part of the project, students should write a report with the following structure:

  1. Introduction: The group must contextualize the theme of globalization, presenting the chosen subtheme, its relevance in the contemporary world, and the project's objective.
  2. Development: In this section, the group must explain the theory behind the infographic's theme, including the details of the activity, the research methodology employed, and the results obtained.
  3. Conclusions: The group should summarize the project, highlighting the main learnings and conclusions drawn from the work.
  4. Bibliography: The group should present the sources used for the infographic's research and development.

The infographic must also be submitted along with the report. The combination of the written report and the infographic will allow students to explore and demonstrate both their research and theoretical understanding skills, as well as their visual presentation and communication skills.
