Contextualization

This project is designed to introduce you to the exciting and challenging world of Combat Sports. Many times, when we think of combat sports, we only imagine the scenario of a fight, but it is much more than that. It is an exchange of knowledge, culture, discipline, respect, and many other skills that go beyond the physical aspect of the sport.

In this project, we will explore three main theoretical concepts: the history and culture of combat sports, the techniques and strategies used, and the ethics and respect that are fundamental in these sports. Each of these concepts is as important as the others and together form the basis of what combat sports are.

Combat Sports include a variety of modalities that range from the best known such as Boxing, Karate, Judo, and Taekwondo, to the less popular ones like Sambo, Muay Thai, and Capoeira. Each of these modalities has its own rules, techniques, and traditions that will be explored during our project.

The importance of studying Combat Sports goes beyond understanding the physical and competitive aspect of the sport. It is an opportunity to learn about different cultures, traditions, and values. Each combat sport is the fruit of a culture and carries in its strokes, movements, and rules the history of a people. In addition, studying these sports helps to develop skills such as discipline, respect for others, teamwork, and strategy.

To delve into the subject and understand more about Combat Sports, we recommend reading the book "The World of Fighters: A Social, Political, and Global History of Combat Sports", by Paulo Ayres Mattos. Other good sources are the Encyclopedia of Sports "Combat Sports" available on the sports website (www.esporte.gov.br), and the informative videos on the Youtube channel "Sensei Sportv", which bring a rich approach to the history, techniques, and rules of Combat Sports.

Practical Activity

Title of Activity: "Fighting in Scene"

Project Objective:

The objective of this project is to encourage students to delve into the history, techniques, rules, ethics, and culture of combat sports through a practical and collaborative activity.

Project Description:

Students will be divided into groups of 3 to 5 members. Each group will choose a specific combat sport to study and represent.

Each group will conduct an in-depth research on the chosen sport, focusing on three main aspects: the history and culture of the sport, the techniques and strategies involved, as well as the ethics and respect inherent to the sport.

After the research stage, the groups will prepare a theatrical presentation, where they will represent a fight of the chosen sport. Physical contact will not be necessary, only the demonstration of the movements, techniques, and strategies of the sport. It is very important that the presentation respects the safety and well-being limits of all those involved.

In addition, each group must prepare a written report that details the information collected during the research.

Materials Required:

• Internet access for research.
• Writing materials to prepare the report.
• Adequate spaces to rehearse and perform the presentation.
• Comfortable clothes for the day of the presentation.
• Necessary accessories for demonstrating the techniques of the chosen combat sport, if possible.

Step by Step:

1. Division of groups and choice of combat sport to be studied.
2. In-depth research on the chosen combat sport, focusing on the three main aspects.
3. Preparation of the script for the combat scene to be presented.
4. Rehearsal of the combat scene until the presentation date.
5. Presentation for the class and teachers.
6. Writing of the report on the research carried out.

Project Deliverables:

1. Theatrical presentation of the chosen combat sport.

2. Written report containing:

   • Introduction: Brief contextualization about the chosen combat sport, its relevance, and application in the real world, as well as the objective of the project.

   • Development: Explanation of the history and culture of the sport, description of the techniques and strategies involved, discussion about the ethics and respect inherent to the sport, details of the preparation and execution of the combat scene.

   • Conclusions: Review of the main points addressed in the report, presentation of the lessons learned, and the conclusions drawn from the study of the chosen combat sport.

   • Bibliography: List of sources used for the research.

This project will allow students to experiment with different roles (researcher, playwright, actor), to better understand the mechanisms of combat sports, and to develop socio-emotional skills such as time management, communication, problem solving, and creative thinking.

Remember: Safety must be the number one priority during presentations. No physical contact of any kind will be required.
