Activity Title: "A 3D Tour through the Galaxies"

Project Objective:

Model the Milky Way and another galaxy chosen by the group in a 3D environment, learning about their characteristics and structures. The goal of this project is for students to understand the composition and structure of galaxies, comprehend the differences between them, and be able to describe the position of our Solar System in the Milky Way.

Project Description:

Students will create two three-dimensional models: one of our galaxy, the Milky Way, and another of a galaxy of their choice. They will then compare and contrast the two galaxies and describe where our Solar System is located in the Milky Way.

Groups should consist of 3 to 5 students, and the project should be completed within one week. The workload is estimated at two to four hours per student.

Required Materials:

1. 3D modeling software (e.g., Tinkercad, Blender - both free and available online)
2. Computer with internet access
3. Paper and pen for sketching

Step by Step:

1. Conduct group research on the Milky Way and another galaxy of your choice, including information about their structure, characteristics, and the location of the Solar System in the Milky Way.

2. Based on the research conducted, create an initial sketch of the models on paper.

3. Using a 3D modeling program, create the two models based on the prepared sketch. Be sure to include details such as the galaxy's core, spiral arms, the location of our Solar System (in the case of the Milky Way), among others.

4. After completing the models, prepare a presentation for the rest of the class, highlighting the characteristics of each galaxy and comparing them.

5. To conclude the project, each group must prepare a detailed report following the steps described below:

   • Introduction: Contextualization of the topic, relevance and real-world application, as well as the objective of this project.

   • Development: Explanation of the theory behind the central themes of the project (galaxies and Milky Way), detailed description of the activity carried out, indication of the methodology used, and finally, presentation and discussion of the results obtained.

   • Conclusion: Recapitulating the main points, explaining the learnings obtained, and drawing conclusions about the project.

   • Bibliography: Indication of the sources used in the project such as books, web pages, videos, etc.

At the end of this project, students will have a clear understanding of the structure and composition of galaxies, as well as develop skills in teamwork, time management, communication, creative thinking, and problem-solving.
