These changes of state are crucial in many areas of science and technology. In meteorology, for example, it is necessary to understand how water vapor condenses to form clouds and precipitation. In the food industry, freezing and melting are key processes for food preservation and preparation. In medicine, understanding the changes of state of matter allows for the development of more effective drugs and therapies.
Project Introduction
This project aims to investigate the changes of the physical state of matter. Activity Title: "Changes of State: From Theory to Practice!"
Project Objective
This project aims to empirically investigate the changes of the physical state of matter. Through the performance of a practical activity, students will be able to observe the transition between the different states of matter (solid, liquid, and gaseous) and connect the theoretical concepts studied to the observed state changes.
Project Description
Students, in groups of three to five members, will conduct an experiment where they will follow the physical state changes of water from its solid state to the gaseous state. They will also record their observations, analyze the results, and discuss their conclusions in a final report.
Required Materials
- Ice (enough to fill a glass)
- A transparent glass or container
- A stove or electric heater
- Pot for heating water
- Thermometer
- Stopwatch
- Notepad and pen
Detailed Step-by-Step
- Organize yourselves into groups of three to five members.
- Observe and record the appearance of the ice, which is water in a solid state.
- Place the ice in the transparent glass or container.
- Observe and record the amount of time it takes for the ice to start melting and transforming into liquid water.
- Continue observing and recording until all the ice has melted. This will represent the change of state from solid to liquid.
- Next, transfer the water to the pot and heat it on the stove or electric heater.
- With the help of the thermometer, record the temperature at which the water starts to boil and transform into vapor, which is water in a gaseous state.
- Continue observing and recording until all the water has evaporated. This will represent the change of state from liquid to gaseous.

After completing the practical activity, each group must prepare a report of up to 10 pages, with the following sections:
