The Portuguese language is full of particularities that can often confuse us. One of them is the use of "porque". Did you know that it can be written in four different ways, each with a specific meaning? That's right, "porque", "por que", "porquê", and "por quê" are part of our daily lives and, although they may seem the same, they are not.

Understanding the difference between these expressions is essential for clear and effective communication. Therefore, in this Portuguese project, we will address in a very detailed way the use of "porque" in its different contexts. By the end of this activity, you will have a complete mastery of the subject, being able to apply this knowledge both in formal writing and in everyday life.

Theoretical Introduction

To begin, we need to understand the origin of the word. "Porque" comes from the Latin "quapropter", which means "for which". Thus, the word already carries in its origin the idea of cause, explanation, motive. However, the way it is written and used can change its meaning, being used to ask, answer, explain, or even to express a causal or final conjunction.

In general, "porque" is used to answer questions, while "por que" is used to ask questions. On the other hand, "porquê", written together and with an accent, is a noun, and "por quê", separated and with an accent, appears at the end of sentences. It may seem complicated, but don't worry! Throughout this project, we will delve into each of these uses.

The Portuguese language is rich and complex, and understanding its nuances is an important step towards expressing ourselves better. After all, a small change can alter the entire understanding of a text. Thus, by mastering the use of "porque", you will be much more prepared to communicate effectively, whether in the ENEM essay, in writing an article, or in a conversation with friends.

Practical Activity

Activity Title: Unraveling the "Whys".

Project Objective:

Students will create a theatrical piece, using all the "whys" ("porque", "por que", "porquê", "por quê") correctly, demonstrating an understanding of their grammatical application.

Detailed Project Description:

Each group, consisting of 3 to 5 students, must produce a script for a theatrical piece with dialogues that use all forms of "porque". The play should be set in a scenario from the students' daily lives (school, home, park, etc.) and address a topic of interest to the group. Resources such as humor, suspense, and drama can be used to make the play more engaging.

Students should focus on:

• Writing scenes that justify the use of all forms of "porque".
• Ensuring that each "porque" is being used correctly according to grammatical rules.
• Producing a well-structured, coherent, and engaging script.

Required Materials:

• Pen and paper for script creation.
• Research materials: books, internet, etc.
• Suitable set and costumes for the play presentation.

Detailed Step-by-Step Guide for Activity Execution:

1. Group Formation (10 minutes): Students should organize themselves into groups of 3 to 5 participants.

2. Research and Group Discussion (1 hour): Groups should research the correct use of "porque" and discuss ideas for the play.

3. Script Creation (1-2 hours): Students should write the play script, ensuring that all forms of "porque" are used correctly.

4. Play Rehearsal (1 hour): Groups should rehearse the play to ensure that all members participate and that the script flows well.

5. Play Presentation (20 minutes/group): Each group presents the play to the class. Students should pay attention to their classmates' presentations and take notes on the use of "porque".

6. Report Writing (1 hour): After the practical activity ends, each group should write a report based on the script and notes taken.
